Copper Spark Plugs for GS-R?
I couldn't find this topic discussed under the search so here it goes.. Can copper plugs (NGK) be used in a GS-R safely/effectively? Any difference in performance or anything? Also, what is the model number that will do the trick?
Yeah, copper plugs will work, but they won't help your performance any. Platinum plugs are actually mostly copper, but the electrode is coated with platinum to help it hold up to wear. Copper does flow better electrically, but that very small amount of platinum isn't going to cause enough resistance to make a performance difference. In fact, if anything's going to make a performance improvement, it's the platinums. Not only will they last longer, but the stronger and more durable platinum means that they can cut the electrode sharp and it pretty much stays that way, which is good for spark. NGK's V-power plugs take advantage of that (it's not the crappy split fire design). But spark plugs wont really make a difference unless you're replacing worn out plugs.

here's a follow up question then.. would i be better off just using coppers and replacing them every 10,000 miles or whatever it should be or just getting the platinum and changing them very 60,000? is this kind of the same argument as non-syn. motor oil vs. syn. motor oil?

I run NGK copper plugs and replace them every 10K-15K miles. In the long run it's actually cheaper than buying platinums every 60K miles. For the price of one set of NGK platinum plugs, you can buy at least 5-6 sets of copper plugs.
