Philly Autox Pics (56k beware)
Some pics of H-T'ers from the autox at Nazareth today.
Tal beating the crap out of my car. He may have kicked my *** driving, but I wiped the floor with him at photography so no pics of me racing. Focus on the CAR, not the fence Tal!
Tom's Civic
Matt's Hatch
Drexel's Formula SAE car shortly before it broke a driveshaft
Our FSAE car, which never made it to the event. This is a pretty typical portrait of us working; three jackasses standing around saying "yep, the car's broke" and one guy shaking a can of something really flammable.

If I dig up any other pics, I'll post them
Edit: Tom and Matt, I have higher resolution versions of those pics if you want them

Yes, they are structural. Our '03 car will have trianglular sidepods integrated with the roll hoop and side impact. The Drexel car made only one or two runs I think, taking it pretty easy. It sucks for those guys, I know they worked hard to get their engine back together after blowing it a couple weeks ago.
There was a shiter cart there that was absolutely awesome, the driver had won 5 or so reigonal cart chamionships I think. I'm pretty sure he had the fastest time of the day. Too bad I didn't get any pics.
will you have to prove equivalency for your '03 car side impact w/ the structural sidepods? it sounds like it will be similar to Cornell's setup.
Otherwise, good work and I'll see you at competition

Cool!
I am on University of Delaware's FSAE team. We were going to bring out our car to Camden today, but, as usual, it has issues.
I think we were all invited to go to Penn State this weekend to have a day to run the cars, but it got cancelled. Don't start asking me tons of technical questions about the car though because I am only a freshman.
take care,
see ya in Pontiac!

sounds like me and my buddies.
I don't think we need to prove equivelancy, we're not using any exotic materials and that sidepod design is pretty common. What team are you on Negative Lift?

yeah i think it made two runs total......not bad considering the car had no engine when i showed up friday night. We had an old F2 sitting around and one of the guys pulled it apart and checked everything. When i left @ 8pm on Sat it was running and all it need was a shifter linkage extension. I was suprised to see it ended up getting done. I think we are done with this car for a while, we have bigger fish to fry(like this years car). But don't be surpised if it makes another apperance come winter series. I put way to much time in to let it sit.

Maybe you are making the sidepod structural wthout it being the actual side impact structure?
Of course I'm an engine not a chassis guy right now so remember that
soo...NegativeLift....what does Clemson have planned this year....care to let the cat outta the bag?
j/k shoot, I actually don't even know how Mizzou's new car is, which is ok since I don't go there anymore

Maybe that came out the wrong way. They are not truely side pods so much as the chassis and side impact widened to enclose the area they used to enclose (well, not as much space but you get the idea) They should meet the chassis structure rules, but I'm going to read them again now just to be safe
Are you guys running a standalone ECU or using one of the new fuel injected bike engines like the F4i? If we were smart, we'd do the latter considering the hell we've had with tuning in the past but oh well... our engine guy is under a lot of pressure this year
BikeBoy I don't think I got any pics of you, next time though

yeah re-reading the rules is always a good idea.
I do it every two weeks or so.
We are running an F4i w/ a MOTEC engine management. I think even if you start w/ a factory fuel injected motor the 20mm restrictor results in a much different map; you'll need to tune from a piggyback system at least. You're right, tuning is tough. Do you have an engine dyno?

Yeah, we have a water break engine dyno, with a ghetto engine stand (made from left over chassis tubing). The engine is a '99 Yamaha R6, which we're using again this year. We just finished rebuilding it after blowing the rings last year due to tuning issues. I heard the F4i ECU could compensate for the restrictor, but I really haven't looked into the subject at all.
Do you know what model dyno that is? We have a Superflow 901. I haven't looked into the stock F4i ECU either, but remember seeing on the mailing list that people had used it w/ a PC commander.
What part of the car are you working on?

Don't know the model off the top of my head. I'm the team co-captain this year. I was responsible for chassis design and did some suspension work. Now I'm heading up bodywork, since I secretly have an artistic side
In case you were wondering, that's not me in the pic.
