Default Portflow or ENDYN Cylinder Head

Been looking into getting my b16 cylinder head ported and polished. Currently head is stock with S2T2 cams and motor has 11.5:1 pistons.

So has anyone dealt with either mentioned company recently?

Both are good companies. I guess it would come down to personal pref.

I tried contacting Portflow for a quote on price and turn-around time, in my opinion they showed very little interest in my project, basically gave me a price, an address to ship the head to and that was it. Never asked for details on my engine, engine size, cams, induction, etc.

I ended up using Endyn, because they were the only ones to show interest, and give pointers and advice. They're very thorough and in the end, i was happy w/the work performed.

To be fair, I also emailed/called RLZ (voicemail full, never returned email) and 4piston (their turn-around time was a lil longer than I was willing to wait, they too gave awesome advice on my build)

off the top of my head

Larry and Endyn www.theoldone.com

Brad at RLZ www.rlzengineering.com

Saul at MCP

Luke at 4piston

Dave at headgames

Tom at portflow

Jeremy at inlinepro

Any of these guys can get it done. Some have full cnc capability, others do it by hand, others might give it to other cnc shops to do the heads.. its all about branding and marketing and pricing and turnaround times.

So any of these can deliver a good ported head if you can afford it but who is the best?

It's really a hard question to answer. I can tell you what the majority will vote for being the best but sometimes the majority can be wrong as well.

There was a poll on here around 2005 and it had thousand of votes but I cannot find it for you to see the results.

2-3 weeks right now. Anything that gets hung up past 2 is usually waiting on payment or needs further repair like welding

What are the usual prices for a pnp from these companies? Portflow wanted 1100 but came with other services.

Being new to the stuff and not knowing what is bad vs. what is good, it was a lot of eye candy. coupe of my friends who are more technical with it, seemed to be in love w/it. my engine seems to like it too...

What do you mean, what kind/setup? it's their entry level port work, which is to my knowledge still CNC, but not as extreme as their race version. Its a B16 head I used on my B20V, if that matters.

Did it come other services though? Dissamble and assembling? Cleaning, inspecting?

Yes, I had to send in three heads before finding one that was suitable. they checked all clearances and specs on the head, disassembled it, cleaned it, ported, then assembled it inspected pretty much every aspect of the head,

This sums up all I wanted to know. Primarily what package port work you had done but also if there was extra done because I know most charge for disassembly because they don't need that stuff for the porting.

Thanks for the reply on that. I'm still trying to decide between a couple for my setup. But taking as much people's opinions into consideration as I can.

I did a TON of research between all companies and the only company to answer my questions and go above and beyond to help me make a informed decision was Luke @ 4piston so that is who I am going with, great work and excellent customer service, can't beat that combo.

You need to deal with mike at laskey Racing to get In touch with portflow.
I'am In Canada and with shipping and everything I had a turn around of only like 3 weeks ...

Made great power with this head, Nothing negative.

I would also like to deal will 4pistons for a CNC head, great services from him for engines parts back ni the day.

Hi,

I had a slightly unfortunate incident with Luke @ 4 Piston who was probably going thru some personal issues.

He got my business after I went gaga with his cnc port work and full $$ sent to him. Unfortunately things did not take off and my work never happened.

Got a refund back from him after about 2 weeks. Tom was my 2nd choice only because he did not do a CNC port job. He eventually got my business after he called me a couple of times in India understood my issues, my build and the delay after Luke took 2 weeks away from me.

He assured me that he would have my head ready to ship in 3-4 days flat which he lived upto.

Does not end there. Had a issue with the head where the port walls on the exhaust side cracked and had coolant leakage. He saw the pics i emailed promptly went about making another head and had it shipped to India at absolutely no cost.

Thats exemplary service and he is going to get all my future business for sure.

Jignesh I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt with the personal issues even though that isn't the case ha ha. I shipped your head the day after you paid via USPS, as requested. After you said it had not arrived in 2 weeks, I refunded your money no questions asked. The head did show up to India customs about 6 weeks later and I was able to pay another $250 to reroute it back here. Sorry it didn't work out for your time frame.

Jignesh is a great guy and we just didn't work out for his time frame. I'm glad to see him having a success story with the build.

Nicely handled 4piston.
I also live abroad and things take some time to get here. 2 weeks turn around time seems reasonable to me.

When I'm ready for a cnc head I will definately go 4piston.
