Default is it legal in Texas to have clear plastic license plate cover?

i looked all over google on dmv, dps, police department site, county tax office, tx-dot, and read posts on forums about the subject but were from all different years, so was'nt sure if the info was up to date.

i just wanted to find out a definate answer to whether or not i am allowed to have a clear plastic cover over my front icense plate ? according to the current texas laws ?

i understand the part i read where your not allowed to have a license plate frame that covers any part of the letters on the plate or how you can't have a tinted or colored plastic cover that makes it hard to read plate, but i did'nt see anything about having a clear cover, which does'nt obstruct anything that would make it hard to read.

if anybody knows if your allowed to have clear plastic cover on license plate in Texas, i would appreciate it, thanks

Anything covering the license plate is illegal even if it is clear.

sorry if i put this in the wrong section of the forum, i just noticed the civic / del sol section had the highest post count out of all of them (3,100,000+), so i figured it would be more likely that someone might know the answer.

well if it is illegal like you said, even know its clear, i don't have one on my car, and i'm just trying to find out the law before putting one one my car so i won't be doing something if its illegal.

i did buy one lastnight at walmart cause my friend whos a mechanic told me it helps from not getting speeding tickets, cause cops usually aim their radar guns towards the front license plate to bounce the signal off the reflective surface on the plate, and having the clear plastic cover reduces the chance for them to get a good reading since it does'nt reflect as good.

i'll try calling police or dmv and see if they know,

but i'll probably just return it back to walmart instead of risking the chance of it being illegal, cause i don't need any reason to be pulled over.
