I read rumors about this about a month or so ago. Honda was tested there new civic at the nuringburg (sp) saying they will have the fast ff that hit the track.

looks like they've gone back to some standard things here
IM on the back of the motor, turbo and exhaust manifold are no doubt a one piece casting (think R35, audi/vw, srt4, 335i, etc. turbine housing is integrally cast with the manifold) this means initial turbo upgrades will be centered around stock parts, simply with bigger wheels and machined OEM housings. Eventually companies will develop their own comp. housings as well as manifolds (again, think about the R35 turbo upgrade path here... it's a perfect example of what to expect) turbo is obviously internally wastegated, probably a smaller sized turbo to get the low end torque they were after. Cat is part of the turbine outlet elbow (again, how most recent turbo cars are setup) which again is good for emissions but probably chokes a good bit of exhaust flow, especially right after the turbo... but they did this so the high EGTs light the cat off faster and keep it up to temp, reducing emissions by a good amount..
Glad to see they are using an efficient full sized FMIC from the factory.. I bet those couplers are those crappy flex kind that balloon under pressure
Direct injection... good for emissions and low end/mid range power. Unless someone can crack hondas ecu coding (think GM and HPTuners) then the only way to modify these motors will be by adding additional injectors or converting the motor to port injection

Is there a timeline as to when we could see this in the states? If the core design is anything like the b or k series I can see huge numbers from this with upgraded turbos
Might just be wishful thinking on my part, but the K was built NA and could handle boost very well. I would think the factory turbo motors would be able to handle quite a bit of boost.

The direct injection, integrated exhaust manifold/turbine, and the ecu software kill any chances of immediate modifications, especially if this isn't a US motor.
That's the big thing. Usually the Honda motors are 'off limits' for a few years. There aren't a lot of people who buy brand new cars to scrap the whole thing and put the motor in a 25 year old shell. The exhaust manifold and turbine thing urks me quite a bit. I have seen it before on cars and I think it sucks. Means you have to replace more when they go bad, but I guess it would be fine for rebuilding. And the ECU, chances it will be like the J-series? They have megasquirt or something like that and it does a good job, right?

the silver thing over the exhaust manifold is the intake arm for the turbo... you can clearly see that the cold side intercooler piping goes over the transmission to the throttle body on the intake manifold behind the motor

The 1.5l motor shares the same architecture as the 2.0l... this gives you a clearer view of the intake manifold on the back of the motor, not the front.
It wouldn't work as the way the motor mounts in those chassis there isn't enough room between the engine and firewall for the complex OEM turbo setup

also, it's a vgt turbo. You can see the black actuator mounted to the compressor housing with an arm that goes to the vgt rack on the turbine housing

you might get away with using a piggyback like the AEM FIC4 but I don't believe it can control direct injection... you'd have to add secondary injectors or eliminate the direct injection and convert it to more common port injection. The issue you have there is you'd have to swap the oem ecu back in and revert the motor back to its stock form for it to pass the OBD2 emissions test
