Default 96 Accord EX auto build?

Hey guys and gals, I have a CD5 with a f22b1. Its got 157k miles and its an automatic. My question is, is it worth it to try and make it faster? Nothing crazy like boost (yet?) but I would like some more zip to it. Currently stock except for a cheap ebay intake. I havent had all too much luck finding extensive aftermarket support so I figured this would be a better place to post. Oh also it's my wife's DD so mods must be completed in a weekend or else! (she'll be kinda ticked) lol Anyways. Suggestions and opinions welcomed!

I've got basically the same thing as you. There's really no point trying to make an automatic faster. If you 5 speed swap it, it will run you about 500 like it did for me. My plan is better flow (intake, exhaust), upgraded cam and low boost. For these that's about all you can do without going all out and upgrading internals.

Its just not going to ever be an option for us. The automatics just can't hold the power that a five speed would. The intake more than likely reduced your power, and adding an exhaust will just make it louder. Sorry to rain on your parade.

If you get it tuned won't the exhaust and intake add power? I forgot to mention a tune

Yes and no, it will be a semi-decent increase. But tuning an auto is impossible without a standalone or piggyback system.

I'd like to have it be a manual as well. Once I get my wife another car this ones all mine. I already have the f23a IM I just havent installed it. Along with the bisimoto IM thermal gasket. Whats a good tuner to work with? I dont really know much about older hondas like this one. I started with an 8th gen civic that I'm currently working on. I'd just like to make it a really reliable fun to drive DD. If that means just leaving it as is, I'm sorry to say I cant do that. I have an itchy-bug for changing the "everyday norm" I cant leave things the way they are because in my eyes, it can always be better. So some positive performance suggestions would be much appreciated. Although I do appreciate your honesty, I see some potential here.

You obviously sound like you're somewhat intelligent, unlike 90% of the other people that post here usually. A manual conversion will yield FAR better results, so that is the first thing I would do once you have full "ownership". The F23A1 manifold is another good hardware swap (one I've done myself actually!) and will do well with a larger throttle body and a port matching job. Regardless you won't get much, if anything out of an automatic. They are slow, clunky, basically untuneable, and are very unreliable under any real power.

Um... Thank you? lol By chance would you happen to have a write up or know where I can find one about installing that F23 IM? I know it's not a simple unbolt and bolt on but I've also read that it's not as hard as you think if you're careful. I'm not 100% sure as to which IM I have. I know it's f23 but I dont know if it's a1 or a4.

Click on his profile and then his started threads, he has a pretty decent writeup in one of them. Search around on here, too, a few people have done it.

Here is page two of my build log, starting here is where I bought my F23A1 manifold and started to install it. I personally like working with it a lot more and personally thinks it looks bounds better than the B1/B2 manifold.
