'91 Accord Clutch Chatter When Cold or Wet
I've tried seaching this forum for any other that have had this problem but no luck. Every morning when i start up the car and begin to pull out in 1st gear the clutch chatters pretty back, once the engine/drivetrain warm up I can pull out fine, no chatter at all. I've tried giving it more throttle, slipping the clutch, nothing helps. Its much worse if it rained that night. Its a '91 Accord 2.2L 5spd 208,000 miles. Not sure when the clutch was changed last but I feel that if it was a warn clutch issue it would do it all the time and not just when its cold. I've replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder, do. Could the cold affect the master cylinder and cause it do act like this? Any adivce?
The car shakes as you're letting out the clutch, like when you dont give it enough gas and the car is just about to stall but alot worse. Ive seen people on other honda forums have this problem with other models but no one has ever said how they've fixed it or what caused it, how knows maybe theres nothing i can do about it but its very annoying.

is shaking especially when cold, - right?
Got exactly the same problem........
Wondering if a ever so slight layer of oil is burning away during the warm up
of the clutch.......
The only thing that could possibly cause this is when you don't properly torque the flywheel and/or clutch bolts in proper order. There are many bolts that you can just say "eff it" and just tighten them down. However any bolts that hold bearings(timing tensioner bolt, axle nut for hub assembly), bolts that hold things that move(flywheel, clutch), absolutely need to be torqued properly.
What could be happening is that the flywheel is getting pulled too much and it's not allowed the clutch disc to sit flush which doesn't allow it to get a good grip. Combined with cold weather/hot weather it's being pulled excessively one way or the other.
You're supposed to use thread lock on the flywheel bolts but I never have, and I really think if you torque them precisely they won't back out.
