Default Atenna Replacement

Hey guys, I found this antenna on amazon..
http://www.amazon.com/Metra-GB0621-Full-Automatic-4-Power-Antenna/dp/B006H0WYN8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384708351&sr=1-1&keywords=metra+pw22 http://www.amazon.com/Metra-GB0621-Full-Automatic-4-Power-Antenna/dp/B006H0WYN8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384708351&sr=1-1&keywords=metra+pw22

Amazon says that it fits my car, so assuming it actually fits, how would I install it? Can anyone direct me to an antenna installation guide? I've researched and couldn't find one.. Thanks again

i have an 01 gsr

If your trying to replace your oem one because it stopped going up and down, they sell replacement antenna mast that will fix the problem.

I took it in after I purchased the car and they said the whole unit had to be replaced because the gears were broken.

Does anyone know of a thread/guide or something that deals with antenna replacements? I would like to at least take it apart and look at it and see if the people were lying to me, which they probably were. Anyways, if I were to do it OEM the price was around $400 all together plus labor, I think $350 at some other place. Not worth it. So hopefully it is just the mast. Any help I would appreciate

If your power antenna won't go up or down but you still hear the motor working... get someone yo get in the car and turn the radio on. As it comes on grab the antenna and give it a pull and pull it out. The teeth on the plastic gear usually wear out and that's why it won't go up or down. You can buy replacement masts for about $15. To install the new antenna, put the plastic gear into the antenna hole and cut the radio off. The motor should grab the gear and lower the new antenna into the motor.

If the motors bad, I would just replace it with the s2000 assembly. Much better looking imo too and no moving parts.

Make sure you seal the base up good, it may leak a little water into the trunk if you don't.

The ant. you posted the link for is a "universal" ant. and can be made to fit, it is not a direct plug and play.

If as mentioned, your ant. motor is still working a new mast is the way to go, to do that you need to remove the top shaft nut of the ant. then pull up on the mast as someone turns on the radio, once the mast is out you need to determine if all of the plastic "rack", [plastic "tube" with gear groves along one side] all came out of the housing, if not the ant. needs to be removed and dismantled to remove anything left behind.

If on the other hand all of it came out, the installation of the new mast is a rev. of the removal, feed the plastic rack into the ant. making sure the gear groves are facing the same way as the one that came out, once it stops going in have someone turn off the radio, the motor will grab the rack and pull it into the ant. along with the mast, once at the point where mast can slide into the housing, do so and install shaft nut, radio may have to be turned on and off again for mast to go all the way down.

If the ant. needs to be removed for replacement or disassembly the rear side trim panel needs to be removed, once out ant. removal, [and reinstall] will be obvious. 94
