Hello community. This is my first post on the forum. I am in need of some real help here. My 7th gen is having major issues. Here is what's going on. When I am holding a constant speed my car is making a loud ticking noise. If I accelerate or let off the gas pedal then the noise is no longer there. Except yesterday it got worse. Driving home it stalled when I came to a stop. I struggled to get it running again and when I did, I had to keep on the gas to prevent the car from dying and the noise was twice as loud. My oil level is fine. I think I may have a rocker problem but I wanted an outside opinion. I have done some searching and most people say it needs a rocker adjustment. Please help. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

 

Model? Mileage? Check engine light on? Did you scan it for codes? Most auto parts stores will scan it for free.

Yes, it can do that if you need a valve adjustment. How long has it been since it's had a valve adjustment? These engines need a valve adjustment about every 60K miles or when the valves get loud.

2001 civic ex with 171k. Hasn't had a valve adjustment since before I got it at 70k. There is a check engine light but the codes are for the evap system. Can't post a vid yet because I already have the motor apart. I wanted to inspect the rocker arms and springs to make sure they were still good.
