Buying a used 2002 RSX premium
Hi,
I just had my teg written off and had a brand new 2004 RSX before that was written off as well (not my fault each time). So i found a pretty sweet deal on an 02. I test drove it tonight and it feels really solid, pulls nice, looks great but there are a few issues with it:
-small rust bubbling spot on roof
-front lip needs to be painted
-one rust spot on the rear wheel panel (not the wheel well)
-one HID bulb needs to be replaced
-comes with extra black out lights that look sweet but some cracks in plastic where it would be held in are broken
More important:
-engine bracket at the back is BENT so the engine shakes the car a bit while idling and you can sort of see the engine move a bit if you slam down on the gas.
-back and front engine mounts need to be replaced possibly (they are iffy apparently)
-the thing that holds the timing belt in place is somehow loose somewhere, so at times it'll make a shaking sound
estimated cost to fix 300-500
it has mugen springs with a camber kit on the back though and the thing rides like a tank, i swear smoothest car sturdiest feeling car i've ever driven. Has CAI, new muffler that sounds awesome, body is in great shape, interior is a bit worn and dirty. Also 222,000KM on the engine.
it's also got a decent body kit on it, spoiler, new drilled rotors and pads, well taken care of.
I'm not 100% i can get a cert. mechanic to check it out for me before it sells because he wants $4200 for the car and the winter tires, should I jump on it?
anything in particular I should look for? alignment is great, no bad wheel bearing sounds or wobbling or anything funny when test driven, no rust in wheel wells, engine and underneath are very clean, the guy has 3 cars including a turbo tdi and his brother has a 3000gt in the parking lot, so i kind of get the impression he does like cars as well.
I'm not really mechanically inclined but i can do things if i know what to look for and where. thanks for any help!

I'm always leery of any car that's modified, but I'm not sure how many non-modified RSX's are out there these days.
I worry most about what you mention re: the timing belt. It's actually a timing chain I believe. Has it been replaced?

there's no issue with the timing belt it's the thing that keeps it tight, I can't remember for the life of me what it is called...starts with an f?
it's been changed though and it's not going to fall off or anything lol
I was a bit leery but this car just has some bolt ons and mostly aesthetic stuff.
the only issue is the front and rear motor mounts are a bit iffy and because of that the car slightly vibrates when idling.
the other mounts are poly urethane so should I just jam some liquid poly urethane in the other mounts? or buy new ones? Other than that the car is mint and drives amazing on the mugen coil overs, I swear best drive I've ever had on a car, it is so solid and feels locked to the road. The drop is only 1.5" so it's not bad but the rear camber angle needs to be adjusted a wee bit as I have 16s on there now and there were 18s just on it.
got the car for 4200 and it runs and sounds amazing. It's been babied it's whole life, almost all highway KM and the body is clean as hell so overall, I'm glad I went through with it.
Thanks for the advice!
