Front Window Defrost means A/C is on!
The most annoying thing I've noticed about by 2011 Civic is when you press the front window defrost button, the Air Conditioning comes on automatically!!!
Older civics were never this way and frankly this feature is not needed in colder climates. Warm dry air defrosts quite nicely when it's freekin' cold outside!
Would I be better off temporarily removing the fuse for the A/C clutch until spring? Otherwise I could entertain re-wiring the front console buttons.

the reason the ac comes on is because it takes away the humidity... if you put the heat on and the ac at the same the result of clearing your front window will be a lot faster just some food for thought!
But I get also that it's stupid as I had it on my EP3 but my FA5 doesn't have that problem. To get rid of it on my EP3 it was basically doing a couple of functions (holding buttons) at the same time and then it was disabled. I could put the front defrost without the ac on. I would have to look to see if there is such a thing for ours!

Ended up find it... it was the same procedure as on my EP3:
Step 1: Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (you do NOT have to start the engine).
Step 2: Turn the fan **** to the OFF position.
Step 3: Switch to the FACE ONLY vent mode.
Step 4: Turn the temp **** to the COLDEST setting.
Step 5: Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Step 6: Hold down the RECIRCULATION and A/C buttons simultaneously.
Step 7: While holding those two buttons, turn the ignition switch to the ON position again.
Step 8: Keep holding the buttons, and the yellow light on the RECIRCULATION button will begin to flash after a few seconds.
Step 9: Keep holding them down until the yellow light stops flashing/goes solid, then release them.
Step 10: Test it: Turn the fan back on. With the radio off and the fan on the lowest setting, switch to either DEFROST mode and listen carefully for the condenser fan to kick on. Now, push the A/C button. You should hear the condenser fan shut off, which means the hack was successful. If it doesn't shut off, then something wasn't done correctly.

No problem bud... I know how it is being in cold Canada and the AC is on in the middle of winter just to defrost the windows lol!
