zc sohc my first build ever 90 si civic
well this is how the story unfolds... iv always been a adrenaline junky and wanted to build my own Honda because iv never owned one and theres always a bunch of clowns driving around in them. Anyways iv always owned eclipses only owned 2 my entire life and I wanted to build my own turbo car so I have everything in it that I want. my goal is to build it once build it right and build it mean. in the end I plan to have this car v tech and turbo hopefully pushing near 30 psi and tuned to it. but if just cruising ill be around 10 psi
so far this is what I have
1) 1990 Honda civic si mint all interior and a few minor body dings 220k on cluster. I bought the car for 3 grand with a blown d16a6 in it and 2 sets of rims and some spare parts which was perfect because I wanted to build my own motor. instead of spending all kinds of money on a b18c1 or k20a and everything else out there I decided to stay kinda close to the original stock motor.
2) I pulled the old motor saved what I could sold what I could, kept a few things and got my hands on a jdm zc sohc motor for cheap which is a little better than the d16a6 I pulled due to my research. the zc was factory refurbished
3) Im having the block sent out to eagle to get sleeved within the next few weeks and iv already had the bottom notched out so my eagle rods and vitara pistons fit fine.. well I got my quote back and its was 1,300 for a sleeve job and o ring job and bore/hone, so im probably not going to do that that's a little expensive.. and I hear the press in block guards are no good.. am I going to have to worry about this or should I be ok without it. my biggest fear of putting money into it and having it go to trash
4) this is my parts list as of right now I will update and change it as things change please feel free to comment or suggest anything where as I am a beginner im open to any and all ideas good useful info please don't bash on me like I said im new to this

Okay, PSI means nothing in general. 30 PSI is going to be a large turbo though, that is far above the efficiency range of every T3 I can think of. Seems like a T4 flange and a big turbo to put down 30 PSI. Which means you are shooting for like 700 whp?
so far this is what I have
1) 1990 Honda civic si mint all interior and a few minor body dings 220k on cluster.
$3,000 for a clean shell and a blown motor? That doesn't seem good, but it depends on where you are located. What is your motor of choice now?
2) I pulled the old motor saved what I could sold what I could, kept a few things and got my hands on a jdm zc sohc motor for cheap which is a little better than the d16a6 I pulled due to my research. the zc was factory refurbished
If you are building the motor, it doesn't really matter much. The JDM ZC is a good motor though. Pretty much the D16Z6, if it is the VTEC ZC.
Which block is this? I'm not positive on the D-series, but I have heard B-series can make 500 wHP on stock sleeves.
4) this is my parts list as of right now I will update and change it as things change please feel free to comment or suggest anything where as I am a beginner im open to any and all ideas good useful info please don't bash on me like I said im new to this
Purchased
short shifter installed These are personal preference.
vitara pistons installed Good for a budget build.
eagle rods installed good choice.
Girdle is notched to fit the pistons?
crank is the one that came in the motor Usually good for turbos
god speed removable steering wheel with hub installed Risky. If it's the eBay stuff, it could break and no wheel would mean death at 100 mph on the drag.
y8 valve cover which I painted myself It fits?
z6 vtech head with a port and polish job.. waiting for it to come back Good, but it's VTEC and it's on the cover.
ebay 4-2-1 header with down pipe for now 2 inch 2" is fine for NA D-series.
ebay long cold air intake 2.5 inch That's fine, I'd get a name brand filter though. K&N
air intake bypass valve Good for the CAI, incase there is water or something.
a turbine that goes inside your air intake supposed to increase fuel eco along with little bit of hp doubt it though but worth a try throw this away now.
godspeed purple fuel rail Stock works, but whatever.
aem blue adjustable cam gear Don't know if you'll need this.
Cfr red lightweight under drive crank pulley I like OEM pulleys
walbro 255 in tank fuel pump Good choice for a turbo.
chrome fuel pressure regulator purchased off ebay Risky, I wouldn't mess with stock pressure. Just get a Jegs Fuel pressure gauge instead.
purchased a block guard but not using it due to reviews and such and im getting my block sleeved so I thought I was! not sure If I am going to now any suggestions on that? I don't like block guards. They ristrict the coolant passage and sleeves are better.
I have purchased all new gaskets for a complete rebuild Great idea.
Nippon racing mls head gasket OEM is best, everyone goes OEM.
stage 3 xtd clutch with 8lbs fly wheel may be a little too much for regular street use, but a good clutch. Will take getting use to though.
plan on purchasing or doing
p28 ecu Very good, but any OBD1 chipped VTEC ecu or VTEC converted ECU will work.
Neptune/devil engine management system I would read about Neptune, S300, and AEM standalones before you made a decision.
need obd0 to obd1 conversion Easy, I did a write up.
intake manifold by Ge Not sure on this, I have seen factory work well. Eddlebrock? VictorX manifolds are good if they have em.
throttle body 60mm or bigger? suggestions? don't know much about throttle bodies Stock will work. It's up to you.
custom 3inch exhaust Mandrel bends for sure.
super tech retainers and springs so I can rev to 9k if I want to which ill probably set the rev limit to 8k overkill, but it's up to you.
stage 2 cam bisimotto 2.4
valves Im not sure on yet.. any ideas? stay stock considering I already seated and lapped them.
hks blow off valve Tial is good too, they all work though.
1000cc injectors not sure yet on brand any ides? RC saturated. What's your power goal?
rebuild stock si 5 speed tranny that came in it from what I hear the gears will be close Make sure it's LSD.
journal bearing turbo & turbo kit and piping along with intercooler probably 3inch if I can What's your power goal again, 3" intercooler piping is huge. 2 or 2.5 will work. Journal bearing is up to you, I like ball bearing turbos but it's all up to the budget.
air fuel ratio meter Wideband, definitely get one. My AEM performs fine for $160.
carbon fiber hood because the original hood has a dent That's a little extreme, mostly for looks but go for it.
sways and struts along with coil overs and camber kit, thinking about stancing it with offset rims but not sure yet.. this is a probably not Offset with camber and a turbo kit? That sounds stupid to me. You won't be able to get traction with your low life stance-ness. You have 1000cc injectors and Neptune listed. That's huge HP equipment, 500+ Easy.
new factory red paint Go for it. Many places can match the color.

You have your priorities all messed up. If you are thinking of stance, do not build this motor. It won't work out. And 1000cc injectors are way too big for a D-series with vitara pistons. You're dancing all over the place. Definitely do some research.
I'm posting the photos from your imageshack link.

honestly I have about 1200 a month I can dump into it. but I want it to be fast yet reliable and is going to be street driven also like a weekend car. I would like to have 400+ or be close to that. Everything I read says around 400 hp on stock sleeves
now to answer all you questions freeman:
I would like to push 20-30 psi at least 20
1: my motor choice is a the jdm zc from japan with a d16z6 head. the head is a vetch head and the block is a vtech block see where it is stamped with p28.
2. if I have the block sent out it will be the zc block
3. the girdle is notched so that the eagle rods fit.
4. yes a y8 valve cover fits on a z6 head. It will not fit on the stock a6 head
5. if its vtech it will also have a vtech silanoid on it plus the plug in
6. what do you mean make sure the tranny is lsd? I don't know much about trannies. its the stock tranny that was in it.
7. reason why I chose journal bearing is that the spool difference is only about 4oo rpm and there a lot easier and cheaper to rebuild from what iv red
my biggest fear really is dropping a valve or throwing arod which I don't think will happen. mainly my fear is the sleeves. I don't want to crack one. and so that's why i was thinking about having it sleeved or have a block guard machined in like this one like my buddies up in nh who says he has no cooling issues and they have some cars running 800whp on stock sleeves with this. but then again I don't think he daily drives his honda either. I want to be able to take a 4 hour road trip to the beach if I want to.. one way

Well, honestly, I'm not sure if the D-series sleeves last up to 400 HP. Maybe they do. But forged internals is a must for that power. You are pushing that car very far by going 400 hp out of the Z6 basically. I'll let someone else chime in, but you should make a thread in forced induction to get better responses.
