I just went car shopping and drove a 2012 ex-l and hated the acceleration due to the CVT. I drove a paddle shifting v6 and loved it but need the gas mileage of the I4.

My question after reading reviews from prior years which mention the "shifting" in prior year automatic tranny's is did the CVT get introduced to the accord in 2012 so if I shop for prior years, I would find a geared transmission (I want to stay manual but it is far and few)

The cvt was introduced in the new body style accord. You can get it in a manual as well. Prior years accords are the standard transmission however you may have engine issues on the earlier ones.

No. It definitely did not shift and had a CVT in the 2012. When you say new body style, did you mean 2008+ or some other year?

2012 did not have cvt. 2013 was the first year of cvt in an accord and I very much doubt you could tell in the 2013 as the cvt actually drives amazingly well.

 

2013 was the start of the 9th generation, and the start of CVT (in 4 cylinder Accords). 8th gen 2008-2012 did not have CVT.

 

Maybe the tranny was just so smooth and you didnt feel it shifting, so it felt like a CVT.
