Default Repaired Fender-Bender: Concerns

Hello,

My vehicle is a '95 Accord EX Wagon. It was involved in a minor rear end incident, which only amounted the the rear bumper "shell" being damaged and put out of whack.

Because I was struck, the other persons insurance covered to have my vehicle fixed free of charge, rental, etc etc. I now have the car back in my possession.
I used a recommended auto repair facility in my city, recommended by multiple sources including their insurance company, google, and others.

My questions are the following:

The repair shop had been honest throughout the entire time. But they said my vehicle may have been in a previous auto accident being so old, but not show any signs of this previous auto accident. I have a list of receipts from 1996 and forward. The only answer as to why I can not have my bumper put back into perfect condition is because of a possible previous accident. The shop owner repeated I have an OEM factory Honda bumper replacement part, not aftermarket like some insurances companies want to have installed.

      Now a few pictures:
In this image (driver side) the bumper is bowed out

You can see how bumper is not flush with brake light

Here you can see (driver side) that there is a gap here

Here on this side (pass side) there is a slight bow, but more flush than previous photo

In summary, what are the reasons my bumper has to be repaired like this?
The only thought I have is that the clips, rails, or alignment holes that mount the bumper onto the car have been damaged or something.
The shop did not even have my car more than 6 hours. I dropped it off at 11ish AM and got a return call that it was ready at 3:30PM. All they said is they were going to take the bumper off, see what damage was done, and then reinstall the new bumper of no other damage was done.

could just be the bumper mounts or brackets that hold it on there. either bent or damaged. But yea just take it back to the body shop.
