I got a 99 honda civic. Had trans remanufactured. Trans came with a new tourq converter already installed. I put trans back in car. Everything seemed fine. I was driving car forward and in reverse in yard getting air worked out of trans. Once everything started warming up trans oil began pouring out of trans. I stopped car jacked it up. Cranked car up, once I placed it in gear it started pouring out of the shift shaft cover. I have not taken the cover off yet. I'm to pissed. Is there something I did wrong during the installation. maybe something wrong with torque converter or many a seal.
I also installed a external trans oil cooler. That's the only difference between the old trans and new one.

 

I need some help. What do u guys think.
When I say it is pouring trans oil, it not just leaking I mean like pouring out of a bottle.

 

To me it sounds like an input shaft seal wasn't installed properly or the input shaft is scored and cut the new seal.

 

I hope it is the input shaft seal. (the transmission remanufactures fault not mine). When I picked up trans he did tell me to make sure the torque converter was pushed into the trans all the way, not sure why, but I did that and bolted it to flywheel with no problem.


He did put the wrong size seal in where the passenger side cv shaft goes into transmission causing about 3 quarts of trans oil to leak out ($7 a qt). I found out the left and right side seals for the cv axels is not the same inside diameter.
I called him about that issue and he said he put in the same size as what was in the trans. I call BS.

 

Because it needs to be pushed in all the way, if it's not it will just grind and strip the splines on the input shaft and torque converter.

In any case you're going to have to pull the trans and check it out.

 

Ok we'll it did not grind it was working fine.
I did hear a pop when I first cranked car after getting everything put together.
Trans does have a 1 year warranty. Void only by instalation error. Or electrical components failure. He will try to say it was something I did wrong I'm sure.

 

If the fluid leaks out when placed in gear, two components are very suspect. 1: The 1st clutch test port bolt is loose. 2: the Shift cable seal is damaged.

The torque converter circuit is filled with oil any time the transmission pump turns, EG any time the engine is running.

If you didn't have to fight the transmission installing it, the input shaft was mated correctly with the converter.

Does it look like the fluid leak is pressurized? or just like draining the oil. A converter seal leak will make a HUGE mess. If I remember there is still a vent on the topside of the bellhousing. Shine a light in there and see if you can spot fluid.
