Default Just rebuilt and blows smoke

1997 jdm b18cR jdm p73 ecu

Head was sent to machine shop.

Done at shop...

Problem: car blows white smoke when start up 3 out of 5 times after it sits... Then stop when I drive off. And only when I engage vtec.

Tail pipe is all black, car feels weak sometimes idle sit perfect sometimes then budg down. When ever I turn steering wheel at start up Rpms increase then Lowers. Which I think is normal. Also blow white smoke when vtec hits, and my vtec cracks really loud idk that's matters lol. I check my oil it's still good looking gold. Car don't seem over heating it's sites 1 line behind the center on temp gauge.

What I think: the intake manifold wasn't really screw down very tight, as soon as I notice it I tighten them all down hoping it will fix the problem. Or was I too late and the gasket is ruined and coolant is leaking through it already??

Someone answer him! I recently did an almost exact rebuild as the OP and still seem to burn oil. What could cause this as my pistons were re-rung and also did a valve job?

I think you'd be able to know if coolant was leaking through if you pull a spark plug and discover coolant on it. I am not sure if a loose IM would create that issue, but I suppose it's a start.

Compression test and a leak down test would tell you everything you need to know. After I had mine rebuilt it smoked for the first 50-70 miles and then was all good after the rings had seated.

If you had any type of gasket failure , you would have a very high idle , spray carb cleaner, around vacuum areas, if you have a leak your idle will spike up, then gradually go back down .

I've seen some engines break in at 2000 miles , it depends on the person performing, the break in process.

so, i change the plug and wires, now car is back at the shop, new timing belt and valve adj. took off the valve cover, and notice the belt was half off the gears, rubbing on the plastic cover. so free of charge, and im geting my car back on monday... as for the smoke, they said its not to worry about, it may just stop in the future. bc it literally smokes for 1 minute then stop...valve guide or valve seals... coolant looks good, oil looks good. motor is @ 1k miles so far.

your valve seals are bad. it blows smoke when youre warming up the car is because the seals are cold and have not expanded yet. when the seals get hot they warm up and seal the valves.

water from the tail-pipe is "supposed" to mean youre running clean...

what kind of ecu are you running? chipped? tuned? ebay chip? stock?
