S2k push button DC2 How to DIY
I know this has been done a few times before but I feel mine will be much more helpful and easier. This is a diy on installing a s2000 push button starter in a dc2, in this case a '96 gsr. Please post/message me with any questions or additions.
Tools Required:
soldering iron, bigger the better
solder of course
phillips screwdriver, and a stubby
pliers
wire cutters
wire stripper
razor blade is nice but not required
10mm socket
another person lol very helpful
voltage meter
Materials required:
Push button obviously 35881-S2A-911 $40+ on ebay
cruise control block off plate 77266-ST7-003ZA
plug for the back of the push button, optional ill explain later, could not find part number
12v 30a relay, ex: http://tinyurl.com/30a12v

spade connectors about 5
loop connector to bolt on your ground
heatshrink, and electrical tape
Lets get started, I apologize for the lack of pictures for everything, but I have the major pics:
1: disconnect your distributor cable and your injectors, as you will be cranking the car to check voltages.
2: remove the bezel/shroud around the steering wheel, it is three screws and clips, be careful as these can break
3: remove your cluster bezel with the stubby screwdriver
4: remove the lower knee cover it is two screws and two clips, when you remove this there will be some cables plugged in, disconnect these
5: unbolt the lower knee guard, it is a long metal plate with three 10mm bolts and I believe a cable, disconnect this
6: choose a location for your button, I chose to move the dimmer switch but many move the cruise control.
Use the cruise control block off plate and cut a hole in it for the swithc, more modification will be required just trim it so if fits, as far as the connectors on the switch go, you can either buy the oem plug and pin and wire it up yourself, or, the person I got my switch from just cut the plastic from around the pins and directly soldered to the pins

7: remove the chosen button and set inside the dash
8: Now with the help of another person you want locate the starter and ignition wires, on my car they were a large solid white cable, and a smaller black cable with a white strip, using the volt meter ground the black lead on the chassis and check for your constant ignition voltage, this will be 11-12 volts when the key is in and turned, the starter wire will be the cable that has no voltage (or only mv from the air) until you turn the key to crank the car then it will read 11-12v as long as you are cranking. Now if you trace these under the dash they should lead to two brown connectors, this is where you will be splicing in for your switch.
These should be the wires you are looking for but test them to make sure:

Here is the harness you are looking for:

And this is what it looks like after I spliced into the wires, I used a razor to cut a small section out and peel the insulation off

9: You will need a constant 12v power, the easiest place is the fuse box, the top row of the fuse box should have a row of spade connectors, on my fuse box on the far left there is a wire connected near them, now to the right of that wire if you skip one connector this is the one you want, to check ground your meter and test with the car off it should be 0v until you put the key in and turn it to acc position the one you skipped will read a constant 12v with the key out, this will keep the switch light on and drain your battery

10: You will want to find the closest bolt hole for the knee guard to your switch/relay this will be used as your ground

Know that you know where everything is you can kinda measure out how much wire you will want to use. I chose to put my relay right behind my switch but it would be easier to put it under the dash where you could screw it to something. When you are done make sure you secure the cruise/dimmer switch with zipties or something to avoid rattling. I removed the knee guard as it isnt really needed just added weight. If you choose to do this you can relocate the attached box to the steering column/tilt mechanism
Follow the diagram and you should be golden.
