Motor codes
I'm new to the motor classes of honda I was wondering what the numbers and letters mean i read somewhere that the 23 in a h23a meant it i is a 2.3 liter motor so what does the rest of it mean like a d16z1 what does that relate to
The first letter (1st digit) is the Series of engine. A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J & K and so on.
The numbers (2nd & 3rd digits) are approximate displacement in liters 18 = 1.8L, 20 = 2.0L etc etc.
The second letter (4th digit) is the version, A = 1st version, B = second version.
In the land of the rising sun (Japanese Domestic Market = JDM) this is all that will be found on the engine code.
In other markets there is a 5th digit, this is an export number or another version number. It can also be used to differentiate between VTEC and Non VTEC versions of the engine. F22B1 = VTEC, F22B2 = Non VTEC.

Not sure.... Are you talking Honda automotive engines or something else?
Personally I have never seen anything from Honda North America in the automotive field with a YS or ZS designation.
Can you give me some sort of reference?

a guy says he has a d16z1 motor what does the z stand for or a y in the same place
a guy says he has a d16z1 what does the z stand for or if it was a y in the same place what would that indicate
They are different versions and variants of the D16 engine. Each letter and number means a newer version and or variant of the engine, based on alphabetical and numeric order.
