Default Flashing engine lite on 2003 Accord

When I am cruising on fwy and hit a hill even small one upon down shift over 4k rpm the engine lights begins flashing, if i push it to pass over 4k on flat level it does not show that behavior and runs fine 70, 80 mph no problem . The engine flashing light flashes than goes away once over the hill or below 4k rm, can some one shed some lite that might help me , hoping its not engine problem. Car has 156k miles sucks a qt of oil every 3k miles no leaks, recent oil change.
Thanks

Is this a I4 or V6?

Any time the engine light flashes while driving that is an indicator that there is a misfire in one or more of the cylinders. To know what it is exactly you should have it hooked up to an OBD2 code reader to read the stored misfire codes.

Basic things to look at would be dirty gas, clogged fuel filter, failing fuel pressure regulator, fouled/worn spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, worn ignition wires, or ignition coil(s).

Need to know if you have a 4 cylinder or v6 in order to help with any further do it yourself troubleshooting tips.

In that case you can check the distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil, spark plug wires, spark plugs yourself. Do you have access to a multimeter?

Your quickest diagnosis would be to hook up an OBD2 scanner and go from there. It could cut out a lot of needless troubleshooting if it signifies a certain cylinder or component.
