Default Returning a 90 Hathback to life...

This is my first thread on here, but not my first 88-91 Civic. For some reason I keep buying these things and reviving them. So, here we go again.

I picked up this little blue gem for 350 bucks. 260k on the clock. B1 4spd. Burnt valve on cylinder 2 or 3. Cant remember which one at the moment. Will update with more pics soon.

Yup! And they are light. Nice cars for a swap. I prefer the EF to the EG any day.

Sexy, yes...lol.

Dont let the pretty side fool you...haha. Wheel arches are rusty, pass. Door and quarterpanel need fixing, theyre pretty rough.

No crazy swaps, just gonna put the B2 head that I have on it. Then its on to the cosmetic stuff.

I have had a 95 2 door and a 94 hatchback that I enjoyed, but not so much as the 90s and 91s that Ive owned.

Same with my VW in my signature. Looks great but it's a lie!

I love hatches! Not only do they completely achieve 100% sex appeal. They are very useful! I use to have subwoofers in my hatch, and I love the sound quality and the ability to rock out on long trips. But currently I have my tool box in the back, a floor jack, and room to carry a couple pallets home from work on the weekends. It's amazing.

well, in 90 percent of cases I LOVE a d series. honestly the most in depth thing i've considered is MPFI conversion, but the problem is, if i go that far then I will want to build an engine thats more suitable, then consider turbo, then...ok i see your point. Haha

Thanks, the red one belongs to my brother now, I just finished swapping the 4 speed out for a CRX Si 5 speed, thats why I had it.

Nothing wrong with the D-series. It just won't be as fast as it's DOHC brothers can be. That's a fact. If the most you want is to convert it to MPFI, then that's up to you man! It's your car. The car will run and get you from A to B without problems. That's all that matters, right?

Well fast was never my intention with any of the Hondas I have put together. The DOHC stuff is nice, but for what I use the car for, it would never really pay off.

The red 94 pictured above was averaging between 38-42mpg in town (depending on some conditions) and 52-55mpg highway while retaining A/C, and full interior. That was its sole purpose...haha.

This one I'm just going to put together to enjoy in its mostly stock form. Probably eventually will go with some stiffer springs, possibly change the wheels out, that sorta thing. I do occasionally get into some spirited mountain driving and weaving thru some cones...so we'll see.

The MPGs, I see. My Honda still gets 30 mpg around the city (28 from my math actually) and unknown on the highway. Which is pretty good I'd say. It's not 40+ like yours, but I'll go a month without filling up my tank. So $1 a day isn't bad for fuel consumption.

You're just going OEM with some decent mileage on this? Is the DPFI more fuel efficient than MPFI? I remember reading about the 80s CRX with the 1.3L getting 60+ MPG. Now that's a car!

Well the mpfi obd1 parts from the 8 valve d15b8 are the most fuel efficient, a close second is the odb0 crx HF mpfi stuff. Atleast from my experience with it.

If you were extremely serious about it, you would take a 1st gen crx, gutted, put everything from a 92-95 cx hatch in it(motor, trans, ecm), 13 inch steelies, super hard tires with higher pressure, stiff springs to drop the height, add some aero bits... youd be 60 plus EASILY.

Very obviously the valve, just as I expected. And some ugly body pics...

So dirty I think I may do the B8 MPFI motor swap into a clean EF sedan if I can find it. I've got a kid on the way, gotta get better mileage!

Definitely going to watch this for my future plans.

Its like a 75 hp setup, but you would never know from driving it. The last trip I took it on was from Salem, Va to Nashville, TN and back. I checked my mileage on the way back. At 75-80mph with my wife and I, a car full of luggage, and the A/C running, I got 52.5mpg, which I thought was pretty good given the circumstances and some of that driving was going over mountains.

Oh, its nasty dirty. I've seen worse, but not much. The people who owned it before me lived on a dirt road, and this thing had a fairly stout oil leak from the distributor o-ring and valve cover gasket, so the sludge is all over it underneath. Plus the dust that kicked up all over everything else under the hood.

I was talking the head gasket! But! I can see what you're talking about.

Yeah, my 70 HP B1 wasn't really bad. It had get up and go for sure. It was definitely enough to be a daily and will be more than enough for getting the kids back and forth to school.

Uhhhhhh! Dang! That's more miles than both of my motors combine! My VW has like a million miles on the chassis.

New timing belt tensioner and water pump.

And now the head is in place. I torqued it down this morning. Very soon it should be running again. Just have to bolt the intake, exhaust, and accessories back on.

Exhaust manifold wouldnt go back into place. Somebody messed up the nuts on the middle flange in the past. Cut the nuts off with my grinder, seperated the top and bottom halves, now just have to remove whats left of the studs so I can reassemble...

Or get another header. Not sure how against the $50 eBay headers you are though. The old cast 2 piece manifolds get on my nerves.

Well that crossed my mind, and in any normal case I would do so. Im trying to spend as little as possible. Im actually going to be under 500 bucks to repair and get this thing on the road after tax, title, and tags.

I did kick myself in the *** realizing how many of those manifolds that I have scrapped or given away though. Should have kept just 1...lol.

I feel ya there. I've been giving away certain things forever, but then I need one and don't have it. Pain in the butt.
