B20 all motor build questions/comments
Alright guys, went to the track for the first time about a month ago and was slow. I mean really slow. But man am I hooked now! My buddy was running 7's (1/8) mile with his all motor h22 ef hatch and it was pretty inspiring. I want to do something a little different than anyone in my area, so I've decided on a b20 vtec for now. My budget is 3,000 at once, and up to 5,000 total, but some more would have to be saved for anything over 3. My goal: 240whp. I do not want to turbo, I want all motor and the capability to spray at the track.
A few things I've learned: B20/LS crank good up to 9k RPM
-need new pistons/rods on stock bore. I've bough Wiseco Pistons/Eagle rods already for 11.2-1 comp./ratio.
-Already have a GSR head that is bone stock.
-Already have an LS transmission (want an LSD badly)
Questions:
-Is it cheaper to build an LS to be LSD? or just buy an LSD.
-What is the best intake manifold? Are there performance gains to individual throttle bodies?
-would I need a 255 f/p for a build like this? I assume when spraying I'd need.
-Larger injectors? Colder plugs? I'm willing to go up to a 150 shot if safe enough.
-What kind of valve train upgrades are possible while maintaining VTEC?
Still pretty new but I have a pretty awesome mechanic buddy of mine that is going to help me along the way. Labor/difficulty not the factor here, I'm ready to learn and I'm willing. Cost-effective power is what I'm trying to do here.
What I'm open to:
-opinions
-facts
-getting flamed
Thanks guys!
EDIT: Since im building the bottom end, would it matter if I got a USDM B20 block? (cheaper, lower compression). If not Ill get the b20b/b20z

Buying a stock LSD transmission can be cheaper. Don't use the LS transmission at all. Get a B16 or B18C tranny, one of the shorter geared transmissions.
Throttle bodies play a huge importance in NA. Definitely search some more on this. I can't tell you which throttle body will be best for you though.
A 255 would probably be good peace at mind. They can be had cheap, so definitely pick one up.
Large injectors can always be turned down. I've seen some NA guys use 440 DSM injectors because they are cheap. Colder plugs I think is for boost. I always thought hotter plugs for NA. Research some more on this too.
Well. This makes you seem like you have no clue what's going on. Valve train upgrades while maintaining VTEC? Tons. New Cams, double retainers, upgrade the entire head. You can port and polish the thing. That is definitely where you want to focus a good portion of your money. The head is very important to engine performance.
I bolded this to make it apparent. You are not going to achieve cost effective power at all with this build. All motor is not cost effective. 240 HP for $5,000 or 500 HP for half the cost through boost. You are building the block, which is something you have to do for high HP boost builds. You are going to spend a ton more money getting the same power NA.
Get the USDM B20 block. You are changing everything, why get a higher compression block only to change the compression again? It's a waste of time. You just need a solid block with a crank.
Get a GSR or B16 tranny, then put LSD in (costs ~$800).
Get a ported ITR intake manifold & 66 or 68mm TB
Get RDX 410cc injectors
Get a 255 fuel pump
Get supertech springs
Get CTR cams
Get a GOOD header
Just get the cheapest block you can
You should be able to do all of this for $3000. And, if tuned right, you should be right in the HP range you want.
