Default Torco MTF vs MTF-R

I have a 94 civic with a gsr swap with a 98+ JDM ITR transmission 4.7FD. I have been running Honda MTF since I bought the transmission off my step-brother. I have been researching and decided to try Torco MTF. It is a weekend warrior that I take to the local drag strip and participate in local auto-xing. I located a local dealer that did not carry MTF on the shelve but can order it. He told me that I could use the MTF-R which is a 80w gear oil and that the only difference is MTF is a mineral oil and that MTF-R is a synthetic blend. He even contacted Torco to confirm.

I was wondering if there are any adverse affects of running a synthetic blend in my transmission???

MTF-R is for motorcycles. Get the MTF and ignore any advice the dealer gives you in the future.

I saw that. On the back of the bottle, it says equivalent to automotive 10w-30. It was torco who informed me the only difference was the mtf-r was a synthetic blend otherwise they are the same.

I still haven't been able to figure out why synthetic is bad only that it is. So to get on with draining and filling the tranny. I just went with Pennsoil synchromesh. I will take the mtfr back tomorrow. I am still interested in finding out why so if anyone has any insight, I am all for learning new things!

Some synthetic is okay for use such as Torco RTF. I've not tried the MTF-R in a Honda automotive transmission so I can't recommend it.
