Accord CD6 Ball Joints keep Breaking
Hi Guys been having this problem with me CD6, its has happened like 5 times over the past 3 years where ill be driving and the balljoint just snaps it only happens on the passenger side, this is becoming quite annoying any way I can fix this?
how does the rest of your suspension on that side look?
are you replacing this yourself or is a shop doing it.
what kind of parts you getting. remember, you get what you pay for.
the lower control arm ball joint socket wallered out?
these are all questions to ask yourself.
if I am not mistaken even Honda genuine lbj are quite cheap.

@Mad_Mike.. the circlips were installed and it normally breaks from the thread the bolt screws onto
Is the mechanic properly torquing the lower BJ stud? It should be 40lb-ft. Are they using the cotter pin? If the lower control arms taper is worn or damaged the stud may have a bending load being placed on it.
If you can take some pictures of the broken ball joint in situ that would be helpful.
Check the other lower control arm bushings and the front radius arm is not damaged or the bushings are not worn/missing.

Did you ever solve this problem? I just had the lower ball joint break on my 2000 accord. It seemed fine last week when I replaced the wheel bearing. The stud had broken off right at the ball. Want to make sure something else isn't bad. Will be replacing upper and lower on both sides after that scare!
If the break occurred after some work then I would suspect an incorrect procedure was used to dismantle or reassemble the parts.
However, if your wheel bearings are worn, then the lower balljoint should also be replaced as it is worn as well.
I replace both wheel bearings at the same time along with the lower balljoints.
