2002 Accord LX 2.3 vtec sedan
Looking for some educated advice. Purchased a new rebuilt engine from ATK to replace the original engine in my Accord. My shop says that the engine that arrived is not the same. My block does have F23A4 stamped on it while the new engine has F22B2 on it. I just dropped 3k on this engine and need to know if the engine I received is the same. I did also notice that the spark plugs are sort of on the other side of the engine as compared to mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
the folks at ATK have sent you the wrong engine. the F22B2 is from the earlier '94-'97 accord DX/LX. although it will bolt in place of your F23 since it's from the same engine family there are some details that could make it difficult to get running. the F23 utilizes some different sensor locations, has a different distributor set up, has VTEC...
I would contact ATK about having the engine exchanged for one from the correct year range, '98-'02. If it is in fact their mistake, i would expect them to cover any additional expenses such as return shipping and so forth.

Thanks very much for the response. I think you are right and am doing exactly that, letting ATK resolve the issue, I think someone just accidently sent the wrong motor. I found some info that said about the same thing what you did on Wiki. Hope to have it resolved very soon, miss my ride.
