98 Accord Transmission Swap
98 Accord EX 2.3 AT
I need a little help. Back ground: I’m helping a buddy switch out a busted transmission. His car is a 98 Accord ex 4cyl auto. The donor trans is out of a 99 base prelude auto that was just rebuilt before being totaled. (But donor trans seems to be out of an odyssey) Both tranny’s are pretty much identical except for two connections. The original trans does not have the connector just above the axle inputs but the donor trans does. I looked it up and it’s appears to be a (pick-up assembly PN 28810-P7Z-004 (015-002). Also the original trans has an (oil pressure switch assy. PN 28600-P7Z-003 (013-001) located in the lower right side cover the donor does not. My questions are: Does the pick-up assembly serve a purpose that would need a connection or can it be left unconnected? Since the accord has the connector for the oil pressure switch, can this be taped off or will it cause a problem with shifting or computer? In both cases the holes do not appear to be threaded to accept the sensors. Any help would greatly appreciated. Also I will try to attach pics.

Okay, looks like the bottom pic is the speed sensor. I'll give it another look in the morning. The accord must have it located elsewhere. I still need help on the pressure switch.
I'm not that familiar with 6th Gen AT transmissions outside of their problem issues.
Accord/Odyssey transmissions interchange straight forward, but I think the Prelude had some carryover from the previous generation. Transmisisons may be of the same M6HA(2.3) type, but the Prelude was an earlier variant that may have had transitional changes as it came out in '96 for the '97 model, while the Accord/Ody soldiered on for another year until the new lineup for '98.
I didn't think the 6th Gen Accord has the VSS like on the earlier models.
Easiest way to verify if it is the same transmission, look at the shape of the right side cover. IIRC both Ody and Accord have round covers at the top shaped like the top of a heart, but the Prelude has a flat spot. AFAIK the main case is the same, but the covers are different. You may be able to just switch the covers, but you will need to verify that there are no additional oil ports in the case that the Accord uses vs the Prelude.
Verify that the sensors on the Prelude transmission are the same, or at least compatible, with the Accord. Albeit there will be some differences in the electrical harness connections, or clocking of the connections.
Check the AT oil cooler hard lines. These may be different between vehicle chassis. Use the Accord hard lines on your new transmission.
Unless there is an interference issue, I would just leave the VSS installed to keep the hole plugged.

Thanks for the reply. The two covers are identical. They're both heart shape. I'll head to dealer and pick-up a gasket for the cover. I looked and several parts diagrams and of the three the Ody was the only one to have the VSS located near the axle. Again Tks.
