02 civic very weird transmission issue
I replaced the transmission about 5k miles ago or so. Everything seemed fine until recently. The transmission shifts, and runs normally except for 1 thing.
When taking the car out of Park, and putting it in the gears below, one by one.... the dash does not correspond with what gear the car is actually in. It is 1 behind.
For instance, when I go into reverse, the light in the dash does not light up, but the car is actually in reverse. Then when I go down to Neutral, the car is actually in Neutral, but the light says it is in Reverse. Then when I go down to drive, the car is in drive, but the light says it is in neutral. Once I go down to D3, and then back up to drive, the car says it is is drive. Then All the way back up to park the light corresponds to what gear the car is actually in.
On the way down the shifter, when the car is in reverse but the light says it is not....the reverse lights on the back of the car are not lit up. On the way back up when everything is normal(car light says reverse and its in reverse) reverse lights are on.
I have posted a video of it below:

What the hell kind of issue is this? ECU? One of the connectors on the transmission loose, or shorted??

yes on the trans. its located on near the passenger side tires. ill try and find a link to the manual. also know as the Neutral switch. or transmission Range switch.
Here's a **** poor description but basically you have to loosen it up and align the "slots" on the switch and transmission. Then you put a small straightedge, drill bit whatever, through all slots to keep it aligned and retighten. The service manual has all the detail you need, not sure about Haynes.

Thank you guys very very much! If you had to guess how long do you think this would take someone that is mechanically inclined that has never done it before?
It took me around 1.5-2hours with a friend to do this . start to finish from jacking up the car to lowering it back down. basically jack the car up. take off the passenger side wheel. put the car in neutral. and follow the steps
It is not a hard job and does not take any time at all. However, if it doesn't work reply back because I can scan and post the diagnostic to see if the selector switch is bad. Sounds like it's just out of adjustment. Do you you have a multi-meter?
Just didn't want to post it yet as it's kind of a PIA to scan and all that.

random update 8 months later: I never ended up fixing this, I got lazy and so used to just going all the way down to D2/D3 and then back up into whatever gear I wanted to go on. 25k miles later transmission shifts fine. Just changed the fluid and everything appeared to me fine.
I still have the old transmission before this one I put in sitting around. I am going to buy a rebuild kit for it and get it rebuilt professionally eventually so that when this transmission finally gives out(im guessing another 20-50k) I will have one ready to drop in. I got lucky with the one I put in, put 30k on it and works reasonably well. Considering this one is a EX model and harder to come by. They sell on ebay for over 1k which is ridiculous.
