Hey what up everyone. I have a YS1 cable tranny and everytime I shift to 3rd gear, it grinds. It used to only happen when I was at high RPM, It has steadily gotten worse, but now it grinds as low as 3-3500RPM! Anyone know what this is??Is this expensive to fix. Help is appreciated. Thanks

 

they discussed this b4. It might be your synchros...alot of my friends including me grind into third at high RPM's

I just read you ****...it is your synchros. expensive job. luckily for me my friend rebuilds them for fun.

 

man.. your lucky to have a friend that rebuilds trannies.. i have a friend that would do it for me.. but man he would make me do all this crap for him just for him to do it.. but still it beats taking it to a shop

 

o ya.. probably syncros

 

ya that sounds like its the syncros, my **** always grinds to third too over 3k rpms, i really need to find a new tranny..

 

My 3rd gear, USDM ys1 tranny from 91 GS, grinds all the freaking time at high rpm. What I do now is that I let the RPM drop to where it would end up if I were to use my synchros to shift and just shift at that RPM. That way it minimizes synchro's involvement during shifting.

This way it costs me about 1/10th of a second, but hey, when I grind, it's usually 5/10th+ on my ET. So.....
