Default 1990 Honda Civic Progress

Hello all, I have been working on my 1990 Civic STD for a little over 2 years now. I had originally had one as a college student and for nostalgic reasons, I purchased it for $500 off an auction website. I was surprised that it was in decent condition and had a clean title and a clean body. It also had 146,000 miles on it. I originally just wanted to make it a decent looking daily driver, since I had zero experience working on cars. Over time, and with the help of Google, the Hayes manual, and forums like this, I have transformed it into a nice looking car. Most parts are from the local junkyard, so it has not been too expensive. Here are progress pics:

When I first got it:

Cleaned up the engine, got new rims, lowered the car, and added skirts all the way around. Also, got some window trim from a CRX and cut it to fit:

I decided to vinyl wrap the car since the paint was not in the best shape. Also got a hood bra from LeBra. Added a Civic Logo to the front via a sticker. Here are some pics:

Then I decided to get foglights from an 89 Prelude. Also got vent visors:

Here are some shots of the interior:

Integra Console with an Acura Vigor arm rest added:

Full SI Interior added:

Also added rear cargo cover, speaker pods with Honda grills, and one of those rear hatch lights in the cargo compartment. The cluster is an SI one, miles rolled back to match the actual mileage I have on the car. I also have an OEM fog light switch and an unnecessary sunroof switch thrown in just for fun. As of late, I have added a full Civic front mask, as well as sidemarkers. I converted to MPFI as well for the added power. Just don't have pics of all those changes. I think I am done with this car now. It was fun, and it looks way better than I originally thought it would.

Thanks for looking.

Great work so far! I love the si interior. I'm going to the junk yard on sunday, maybe I'll found one. You got a good price on that too. I paid $600 for mine with higher miles and in rougher shape. Keep up the good work.

I'm digging it. How much was the wrap? Did you do it yourself? (Looks like you did from the photos)

Jeez, great work! Really turned that around! Are you getting rid of it, or are just done modding it?

Thanks all. In terms of the wrap, I had a friend do it. I think the whole job cost $700. As for the Civic, I plan on keeping it for awhile, unless someone offers a great price. Would be fun to fix up another car. Also, forgot to mention, one of the best modifications I made was putting in a 5 speed transmission. Made a big difference.

Wait till you do a multipoint fuel injection swap. That will be a big difference too. That motor was made to be fuel efficient, not really put out any power. And when you get a motor with VTEC (which you will, someday). Modding a honda just keeps going!

Actually that was the last thing I did, a couple of months ago. Actually you gave me advice on working on the idle after my swap. I do have a lot more power!

Ah! I frequent this forum. Probably too much. My post count has gone up like 300 in the past month. I like to try and help people as much as I can. I know I would like help when I have issues.

I love my Honda. The one great thing about having a standard civic, it's easy to upgrade. I went from 70 HP with the D15B1 to 140 HP on the B16A and now I'm getting ready to boost it close to 300 HP. It's a good feeling when you do the work yourself too.

By the way, a shame the wrap costs so much. At least in my opinion that is a lot. About the cost of a paint job. The biggest issue for me, when it comes to paint and such, is the engine bay and door jams. I painted my door jams, but I think I should have taken off the doors to get a better paint job done on them.

Yup, still have the extra interior stuff. Also have a lot of miscellaneous parts that I accumulated during my build. Just been too lazy to post what I got.

Let me know if you need anything and I can see what i got. Also, been "restoring" OEM floor mats found at the junkyard. The ones in the pics above are redone. I have a set of blue and brown ones. Also have tons of injectors and ash trays that fit in the optional consoles.

Love the vinyl wrap, looks like you did a really great job with it!

How hard was it to install the Integra center console? Will it match up to the stock SI ebrake cover?

It was really easy to install the Integra Console. It lines up pretty well to the Civic lower console and one side actually bolts in. On the other side, you choose, you have to use a self tapping screw to keep it stable. As for the armrest portion, it fits over the e-brake easily and I used 2 nuts and bolts in the middle to keep the 2 pieces tight and together. I like the Vigor armrest since it is longer and is more comfortable in my opinion.

Very easy console swap. Much harder for the CRX though.

Did you repaint or refinish your dash/interior trim pieces?

Both lips are from Integra DAs. The rear one, I just used a recipricating saw, measured, and cut. As for the exhaust, it is a cheap Ebay exhaust. Not anything special, but it gets the job done, and it is pretty deep sounding. In regard to the floor mats, I refurbished them myself. I bought them at the local junkyard for $1.50 each and then cleaned them, dyed them, then repainted the logos with fabric paint. They turned out pretty well and look new. The dash and trim have not been repainted. I was lucky that they were in good condition when I got the car. All I use is Armor All and they shine up great.

Thanks for the info! Any more pics/sound clips of the eBay exhaust? I'm undecided if I should go the eBay exhaust route on mine or wait for the Yonaka to be in stock at the end of this month.

I also love the decal on the hood bra! I was planning to get one of these myself, your car has definitely been inspiring

Darn right!

Anyways, whats up with the fog lights? They look like they are bulging or something.
