if you do it I would get a round type muffler and install it where the resonator usually goes, then run the pipe out the middle... you could probably fit a normal resonator and a muffler.
Wow, this is an interesting thread... I'm all in to help!
I dont know much about Del Sol's at all so i apologize if i give the wrong info.
or like the veloster or some CRZ's

If you were to do this, It'd be best to just get custom piping routed to the center from an axle back tucked on the right....
Like this:

If the Del Sol undercarriage is like this the it'd be hitting the spare tire pocket

Here are some I threw into photoshop
(note the cut rear bumper to accomodate the exhaust tip

So regarding the rerouting here's what I was thinking.
-You could cut your axle back (now's a good time to upgrade your exhaust system if you haven't already)
-Anyway, cut the tip of your axle back and bring it back a few inches
-Reroute that around the spare tire pocket (if there is one in the delsol, i couldn't find a delsol undercarriage photo)
fit the rerouted piping into the center (rear bumper must be off at this point)
-Throw on the tip you want to use (square or circle tip[s])
-Cut the bumper so it can fit.

If the del sol is like the Civic (sedan at least)
You may have to move/cut the towhook in the middle and do other fabrication to the rear to make the piping fit
Here's a photo I found on my phone back when I was working on my rear bumper, idk why I kept it...
