Default race car turbo build advice.

Hi.
I need some input to the characteristics of a b16 turbo build.
My situation is.....
1/4 mile dirt oval. Rear engined 600kg car. The class is dominated by twin 1000cc bike engines or big bore (1600 cc) single bike engine cars. Or the odd supercharged k series. Bike engines are not allowed to be forced induction but car engines are.

So I've been thinking if I could get a b16 turbo to still rev freely 8.5 k + and not have much lag. Would need it to be quite responsive on the throttle then I would be some way to bridging the gap between bike engine and forced car engine. Sort of bhp I guess I would need would be about 350 whp at the minimum.

Any input and veiws would be great.

thanks Adam.

That's very attainable but how much money do you want to sink into the engine? What trans will u be running and what gear will you mainly stay in. Figure out your rpm and mile per hour and hen choose your setup. Lag won't be an issue in a circle track car because you generally are in one gear most of the time and the revs stay high enough. You can do a 50 trim journal bearing and hit that hp goal and still and good transient response or step up to something ball bearing which is where they shine in transient response aka respool.

Give more info and a budget and we can work with your setup. Nice to see someone using a Honda motor in circle dirt track. I thought about doing the local races with an integra but to busy wasting money on the drag car

Hi. Thanks for the input. I'm currently running an all motor f20b in the front of a fiat seicento. Using a b series s80 box with m factory 4th gear. Use 3rd and 4th gears depending on the conditions. Geared for approx 85-95 mph tyres dependent.

I plan to use a b series box again. As you say once going will stay in one gear.
the type of racing is called autograss. Its a uk thing. I'll try and post a link to a vid to vive you an idea.

As for budget it depends on what is needed I guess. Nothing too expensive I guess.
My initial plan was to build it with the f20b in.

Adam.

You could build the f20b. The b16 will love the revs though

That sounds like fun. B16 with a GT28 variant would be a blast.

Well since you are at UK you ar at the best place to get a B18C4 and turbo it.
If its 1600cc max regulation you will need probably bigger compressionand forged internals.
What fuel type you can/allowed to use?
Imo ~11:1 wth a small turbo would give nice allround responce and power.GT2871,GT3071,GTX2867,T3/T4 50 trim with maybe a stage II turbine wheel(its 690$ at himni-racing).
If F20B is the DOHC version id build it and turbo it.

Again thanks for the input. I really am a noob when it comes to forced induction. Always been an all motor man.
There is no cc limit to car derived engines. I do have a spare f20b that needs a rebuild as it burns a bit of oil.
I just thought that the smaller cc and over square b16 may have been a better choice. I guess the f20b would produce more outright power and still be rev happy.
