Default 95 Honda civic B16a3 build

Hey guys, my name is Mike. Been a member here for a while.. Haven't posted much on here but decided to finally start my own thread and share with you guys what I'm currently working on. But before I do that, just wanted to mention, I'm a college student with a full time job. I try to work on the car as much as I can but its hard to find time to balance it all. Ill update as often as I can and post pictures, just bare with me! I picked up a 95 civic hatchback about two weeks ago. Got it through a trade but wasn't fully aware of what I had gotten myself into until I started taking it apart. Well lets just get to the pictures, ill try to explain whats going on and what I'm doing..

Here is the car in the garage the day after I picked it up. The color is pretty intense, I know, but after a while, it grew on me lol. As you can see, its missing a few parts, not in the best shape..

The interior, or whats left of it, was in pretty bad shape.. alot of the parts were all scratched up, spray painted, or just missing. lol No carpet, speakers, stereo, shift boot, the gauges are off an auto, ect.. like I said, it was bad!!

Now here comes the main reason I got this car.. The motor. Its a B16a3 SIR. Engine was a bit dirty but nothing a little cleaning couldn't fix. The bay, well its just like the rest of the car.. Half the parts were missing, things were held on by zip-ties and tape. Lots more work that needed to be done to fix it.

Here comes the fun part, stripping and taking everything out. Started with the interior since half of it was already gone..

Taking the dash out and then I find this.. a nest of wires. The car had a Viper alarm installed in it before, but whoever installed it, probably wasn't very good because everything just hung there. The harness was tapped into everything!! Stripped wires all over, half of them for no reason.. The list just keeps getting longer and longer on things to fix.

Finally got the everything out and cut. Left it alone because I needed to buy some heat shrink for the wires and electrical tape. But it was a good first day, lots of surprises, not all bad, but most of them were, as you can see lol. But that's what you get when rebuilding a car. Called it a day after that.

DAY 2:
Started focusing all on the motor and wiring today.
As i mentioned earlier, alot of parts were missing or broken in the engine bay,
well the evap canister was missing and this is the aftermath of it..

The car had a straight pipe on it which was actually broken.. So i had to get a new exhaust and new cat for it..

Once I disconnected everything, ended up jacking the car up and started to take the motor out. I dont own an engine lift, so I had to go from under.. I have alot of tools, but with some stuff, just gotta use what you got lol

Down it goes..

Finally got the engine out..

Now its time to clean the bay. Got some decreaser and a brush.. Lets get to work..

Thats all I could get done today.. Took as many pictures as I could to share. Tomorrow i'm getting some parts and hopefully get the bay prepped and ready for paint. Stay tuned.

Nice! This is going to be good I can tell. Hell, the car cant get much worse. Ha!!!

Please tell us you got this in an even trade for....a blender.

Seriously though, I know the B motor is a big bonus. But man, if the rest of the car is any indicator of the abilities and maintance of the previous owner, that engine is likely fried and in need of a complete rebuild. Just my guess of course.

Paint on the front bumper: shouldnt flake off like that in chunks. Poor sanding and prep. Likely means that, not only will other parts of the paint eventually start to flake, but also that ALL of rest of that hidious Hugo the Hornet paint job will have to be stripped off before a less tacky hue can be sprayed in its place.

Anyway, despite my comments, im excited about this one.

Lets see you bring this car back from its Fast and Furious "glory days"...

I had thought that as well.. Like if the dude couldn't keep the car together and clean, maybe the motor was the same way. But I mean, I got the car because I wanted to fix it and build it. I think I got a solid base to start with, body is straight, motor seems to be in good shape. Ill probably end up doing a full tune up once im closer to getting it all finished..

So as I mentioned earlier, I was gonna get some parts today. Got some pretty great parts from the local Pick n Pull. First thing I found was a black carpet. It wasn't in the best shape but i knew with some cleaning I could bring it back. Picked up a bunch of little things here and there that were missing on the car but I don't have pictures of them yet. Camera is charging right now so tomorrow ill be sure to clean up the parts and share them with you.

I have some crappy iphone pictures that I had taken of the carpet. Here are some before and after shots.

The carpet has some cig burns on it but once I find some floor mats, that'll cover it all up.
Ill try to post everything else I got tomorrow, but I've been feeling under the weather so ill update as soon as I can. Stay tuned.

The carpet turned out nice from when we picked it up from the junk yard. What did you do to clean it up?

I used "tuff stuff". It works very well. I was able to get the carpet cleaned in no time.
Gonna use this stuff on the seats as well.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay with updates. Been sick and busy with school but im back with some pictures. I was able to finally get my engine bay painted and cleaned up. Started working on cleaning up the engine but only got the transmission semi cleaned. Still need to go back and finished cleaning. But I did get work done on the interior. The wiring was a mess but I got it somewhat sorted out. Anyways.. on to the pictures..

The paint wasn't the best.. but I can't complain. Looks better than before.

Here are just some pictures of the car in the sun. Dirty but gives you an image of the color.

Started cleaning the interior. Carpet one more time, all the seats, door panels, and i reupholstered my headliner.

Heres a little before and after on the floor mats.

Carpet going in

Tackling the wiring..

Then I had a few buddies come over.. well, yea.. this happened. lol
I needed a new one anyways, needed to blow off some steam.

Thats all I got for now. Hopefully this weekend I can get the engine cleaned up and back in the car. Ill try to update a few more times this week. Please stay tuned

Nice work! Looks 1,000,000 times better without all of that purple.

I stand corrected. There is some def potential here. Keep it up!

Thanks guys! Really means a lot. (:

I was able to get some more work done on the car. So lets just get to the pictures.

First things first.. Engine is in

Then I started working on the wiring.
Just the like other wiring, this one was pretty messed up as well..
Random wires were just hanging there without any plus, turn signals cut off, oil and dirt on everything.. This is going to take me a little longer than expected. I did however, get my sub harness from rywire for my vtec So that should be a big help.

before

after

Also had random wires just hooked up like this.. Went ahead and fixed all of them.

So I also ended up picking up a few parts as well. Got the Si Intake manifold, since I am going to get the engine bard, I needed all usdm emissions to pass.

Got some corner turner signal lights.

My buddy hooked it up with an oem steering wheel. much better than the brown one i had.

Heres a shot of the RyWire sub harness

Thats all I got done for now. Hopefully once I get this whole wiring mess fixed, Ill be able to get more progress done. Stay tuned.

Hate to burst your bubble but that's not a b16a3.

It's a JDM B16. The year on the head casting should tell you what model it is. Assuming it's the original PR3.

Hahah yeah not a real surprise here!
But the purple is almost gone. I have a second valve cover so this one is just on so I don't mess the other one up.

Compression test will be done Monday hopefully

It's a 93 PR3-2 stamped on the head. I was told it was a b16a3. The stamp on the block is just b16a so I was only going off of what I was told. I knew it was a jdm motor since it was stamped on the head. Also the intake manifold wasn't usdm.

Then it's an SIR II.

B16A3's are stamped B16A3. All JDM B16s just say B16A. Good luck

Yeah I realized that after I had bought it. I can't find an obd1 locally but I'll keep on looking. Thanks for the Info.
