98 Civic/D16Z6 swap - Can't read codes with scan tool
i have a 98 civic ex 5 speed, a previous owner swapped in an obd1 d16z6, the car is obd2. the car acts up from time to time. i work at a garage, and have had the in a few times trying to figure it out, visually nothing seems wrong after fixing a leaking rad hose. my problem is that when i try to hook up my solus ultra snap on scan tool i can read abs, and srs codes and info but i can get nothing from the engine data. is there a way to get the engine data and codes out of the car so i can see what is going on?
sorry for the really slow response, i was out of town on work and my wife drives the civic and knows nothing about cars to help over the phone. to answer your question yes there is a jumper harness with a p28 ecu.
so with the car being swaped to obd-1, there is no way to look at what the sensors are doing, view engine data like with obd-2?
i don't have the cel on, car randomly shuts off, while driving,at a stop sign. sometimes after driving it for a bit, i go into a store and come out it will not start for about 15-20 minute. sometime i've even need to be jump started because battery seamed to be just about dead.
did bat/starting/charging system test all showed good working systems. i swapped the main fuel pump relay from my 2000 civic parts car, didn't seem to change anything.
any ideas as to where to check next or look for? i'm just outta ideas here.

A lot of times randomly shutting off like that is a sign of a bad ignition switch. Bad main relays don't typically cause the car to shut off, just not start in the first place.
