Icon6 My Civic EX wont start

I have an 01 Honda Civic EX that is not starting. The first problem I had with it was that it was overheating. Checked the t-stat and it was fine. The fluids were low, so I put more and it continued to overheat. Next thing now is that it is not starting. No blown gasket. Tries to turn over but makes a whiny noise in the process. Lights come on, just will not start. Help. Any idea's? I need my car for my job. Thanks!

You sure you checked the t stat and not the just the radiator cap. not trying to insult you just asking? whiny noise could be the starter trying to turn the motor. Have you checked the terminals on your battery post. if they are corroded try cleaning them and the wires attached to them. if the battery is in good working order it might not be getting full power to the starter . let us know what you find

In my experience one overheat above the halfway point on the gauge is enough to blow the headgasket. If you have overheated the car multiple times this is you most likely culprit. If, however you insist on trying other things, remove your starter and get it tested, see if there is a check engine light by plugging in a scanner with the switch on(not acc, it doesn't have to be running,) and most importantly check the compression of the cylinders. You can borrow a compression tester and a scanner from your local Autozone.
