First Time Tuner: Generate my own basemap or purchase one?
Hello all,
Many of you have probably seen me asking quite a few questions around here as I move forward in my tuning project. I am turbocharging a d16z6 as a personal challenge and hopefully some directed study credit from my university. You guys have helped me get as far as I have and I can't thank you enough.
Currently I have my NepTune RTP and a Innovate LC2 installed and working. I have been street tuning my currently NA engine to the bolt on mods I have installed as a way to learn as much as possible before playing with a boosted engine. I am about to install my injectors (DSM 450cc) and fuel pump (Walbro 255LPH), at which point I would also like to switch over to a custom basemap scaled for 450cc injectors and boost, to prepair for my turbo install shortly after.
My question is, being a first time tuner is it advisable for me to generate my own map and work from there, or would it be safer to purchase a custom basemap from Phearable or similar to start from? I am completely aware I will need to tune from the basemap no matter what, but if it would be SAFER for my engine to start from a professional basemap or even if it would be a better starting point, it would be worth the 60 odd dollars to me.
What do you all think?
Matt
