Rain Visors/Vent for 90-91 Civic Hatchback. Customizing inside!!!
Quick run down. I modified JDM Crx EF8 non power folding mirror Honda Access window visors to fit the 90/91 Crx's with door mounted seatbelts years ago. Quite simple since it sits on outside with adhessive and clips. Just take the 2nd clip from the bottom out and walla.
I never had a problem, with this car it was 500 hp and had many passes down the track without even a slight buckle in them.
So my father has a 1990 EF SI hatchback that we are restoring.
Similar story from what I gather with the 90-91 EF Hatchbacks with the door mounted seatbelt. Well the Honda Access visors EF9 are hard to come by these days. New that is.
Ventshade is the next alternative for the 90-91 Civic EF Hatchbacks with door mounted seat belts they have a product for them. However I think they look a little too bubbly less oem for my liking...
The best thing I have heard is people love the WeatherTech visors for they actually sit in the channel and require no adhessive/glue. Best of all they look more like OEM. Lots of good reviews on the quality. I guess they look identical to Euro OEM Honda Access EF visors...
Next tragedy is they only have application for the 88-89 pillar mounted seat belt hatchback EF's. Well I purchased them and will try to alter them to fit my father's 90-91 EF hatchback...
I have ordered the WeatherTech visors 88-89 for $78 Shipped and I have also ordered some Weld-On #4 Acrylic Adhessive 4 oz with Syringe for $13 Shipped. This stuff is industrial type weld for Acrylic which it is the strongest stuff on the market!
By now you already see what direction I am going. I am going to make a nice cut and cut some length off to get them to fit then weld back. The cut will be up by the pillar near the end. However I am going to see if there is any manuvering I can do to get them to fit as is...
I will post up the process and results as soon as I get them in, in about a week.

Got the WeatherTech vents in and the weld-on glue. I will tackle the project tom. and post results. I am thinking of making one cut and overlaping it and glue that way. Or make 2 cuts and and bond them end to end no overlaping. I would imagine overlaping them and bonding would be stronger. However not sure if there is enough room in the channel for this. Or overlaping causing a more glue discoloration. From what I have seen this stuff should cause no discoloration but with the the slight tinted vents you don't know till you try it.
My thought on cutting in yellow, cut back on the in channel part so when it is overlaped roughly 1/2" that part is not overlaped.
nice. i have a 91 and have been thinking to do something similar with oem german honda access vents. cutting to size and seaming up. cant wait to see how this adhesive reacts. did not know there was such a product.
Below is pretty self explaining. I used a small old crafts die grinder and steel cut off wheel. I installed the vent in measured and marked where the 1st cut needed to be as shown below. Then made another cut to get it dialed in for a end to end bond. Used a small sand scroll to make flush and straight to have a good straight bond.
----- The measurement on how much to take out, I believe it was 1 1/4" ---- Double Check on Fitting before cutting! ------
Now I have the length right, everything smooth and ready to bond.
However as with my scraps of vents/acrylic I played around with the Weld-On #4. Even with the straight contours non cut it just was not bonding. It would heat up and make sticky like it should be as it is a weld. I understand it takes a while to adhere.
However as I read up more on the Weld-On #4 my ends are no way a perfect machined smoothed flat to flat surface. Which just would be difficult with the slight contour differences and angles between the two pieces. The #4 will not fill any gaps, imperfections in the bond. So I need something thicker that will adhere with slight imperfections on the bond to bond. Which is where Weld-On #16 comes into play it is much thicker like a normal type glue and will adhere any slight bond to bond imperfections. So I ordered it and stopped for today and will continue this in about 4-5 days when the #16 will be at my door.

Recieved the Weld-On 16 yesterday.
I spent about 3 minutes on each fine sanding the edges that were going to be bonded. Used 180 first then 320 on each. Wiped off with windex.
-- Weld-On 16 is a glue type substance that once pulled away from will have a spider tail so be ready for that and to pull away fast and rotate to avoid the tail. If the tail of the glue gets on the part it is there for good. It also works pretty quickly so be ready to have part set and clamped within a minute or so. --
I applied it to one side of the vent. Then I clamped it together with 1 clamp on each side. Clamps are a must to keep it together for atleast the first hour. Then on the inside of the vent not seen side I applied a thin line on the bond to ensure a great hold. 8 hours later I took the clamps off and applied some more to fill where the clamps were.
This stuff is pretty freaking neat I bonded some scrap material left over and I forcefully with a lot of pressure tried to break the bond, flexing it... The sucker would not break... This stuff is great stuff!!!! This stuff does 2 things it is a glue and also makes a water tight seal...
You also need to have a bit of paper towels etc. You do not want this stuff all over.
Key to make it work the best is to try and get each surface as straight as possible to have the best strength bond. Also recommended to leave alone for 24 hours.
I will post pictures up soon on the car.

WeatherTech only makes it for 88-89 non door mounted seat belts. WeatherTech are only ones that fit in the channel of the trim which I think are stronger and better then adhessive ones such as Ventshade. Ventshade are adhessed on. Ventshade does make them for 90-91 Hatch. WeatherTech also are OEM replacation of Euro Honda Vents.
Ok I found weathertech visors for 88-89 on jcwhitney.com.
I'm going to get those for my 88 until I can find honda access ones.
They also have dash mats for under $40.
