'97 accord christmas tree lighting problems
Hey all,
I've got a lighting problem with my Accord that has turned out to be a real pain in the rear. Here are the details:
When brake is applied w/ left or right blinker:
-both rear brake and blinker lights flash
-front blinker lights flash
When headlights are on and brake is applied w/ left blinker:
-rear brake and blinker lights flash
-top stop/brake light flashes
-front blinkers flash
When headlights are on and brake is applied w/ right blinker:
-rear inner brake (closest to license plate) and blinker lights go solid
-front blinkers flash
Also of note: the Brake Lamp Indicator on the dash stays red.
The problem showed up out of the blue about a year ago. I took it to two mechanics and neither was able to solve the problem (one just gave up, didn't charge me, and told me it was probably something relating to my non-factory speakers being patched in).
I have changed:
-Hazard Warning Switch
-Turn Signal/Hazard Relay
-Turn Signal Switch
-Rear Brake Bulbs
Still, the problem persists. I've been doing continuity tests with a multimeter, but it's slow going. I'm not even sure how to test the turn signal bulbs to see if they're getting enough juice. This problem has me completely stumped.
Anyone have any suggestions? Could a bad bulb somewhere else cause this? My current plan is to go in just below the turn signal switch and patch into the wiring, run new wiring to the harnesses, and see if it goes away.

Do you have trailer wiring installed on the car? Those black boxes for combining brake and turn signals are notorious for causing weird problems like this.
No trailer wiring is installed, bro. I saw some people on other forums talking about things going haywire once they installed it, but I haven't added anything like that.
