96 civic front driver side near motor mount...HELP
Whats up noticed on my car today , that it has a crack about 3 inches near the motor mount , I figure I can weld a heavy duty plate over it to keep it from opening more, looking for opinions
So you need to post least 10 good pictures of the area and around it.
Coming from working at a body shop, that seem sealer is not factory and it looks like that panel was replaced, not welded well, and painted.
just from that one picture, I would tear it all apart in there, clean it up and re weld it.

Get the car where you want it, put it on jack stands, then support the motor and its fine to take off that mount.
I would pull off everything on that side, clean up everything, beat what you can back into place, and weld it all up. You could add some plating to the inside or inside the wheel well to add strength, that's about it, seam seal it, paint it. Probably a 2/3 day job, mainly waiting for stuff to dry.
Looks like a crap repair job, I would fix it and sell it and buy a car without previous damage. my 2 cents.

Sounds good , but will just strengthen it up, and go! Not going to be a daily driver anyways, gonna throw a dohc motor and use it as a weekend warrior! GREAT INFO

i typically do these types of repairs with .050" mild steel, and turn the heat up on the welder to get the best penetrationg without blow thru. it's thicker than the factory metal and should add some strength
Anything over a 1/8" Id use, the factory sheet metal is crap and burns threw super easy / quick. Fix it proper, make it look good and sell it.
