Default Body Work Questions....

Hey you guys, i was wondering if any of you guys have shaved your door handles, mold your kit to your car and put door poppers on...... if so is it hard and what exactly do you need to do it? i have a 93 Civic DX and i wanted that done to my car but is it better to get those professionally done or do it yourself.... if it doesnt matter then what do i need to do those.....any help will really be appericated..... thanx again

You could proabably do it yourself but an experienced shop could do it faster...
i have no experience with door poppers, but I know about shaving door handles. The easiest way to do it is just to cut the handle well out all the way back to the flat sheet metal. Flange the outside edge of the cutout to make a nice recessed lip to lay the patch panel on. If you have a curved door skin, curve the patch panel with a roll-type brake and cut to fit the flanged opening, then tack weld in place. Tack weld every 1/2" or so, alternating sides to keep the heat down, and then at 1/4" intervals. With the flange behind the patch piece, there isn't any need to stitch weld the whole seam or anything... Just grind the weld down flush and hit everything with a good body filler. You're on your own with the door poppers.

Make sure to check your local laws too, many states have laws about EMT access that make shaved handles illegal. I'd have them if I could.........
