Icon6 '92 Accord Starting Issues

I have been having some troubles with getting my car to stay on. When I turn the key the car will fully turn on but once i let go of the key it just shuts off right away. I have replaced the Fuel Filter and the Main Relay after reading some other posts on this site but neither of those worked for me. I think this problem could be happening because I had over-filled my gas tank and it stopped working the day after I filled it up. Please post ideas and thoughts on what I can do to get it working again, Thanks!

PS: Not sure if this will be of any help but I also cant get the A/C to turn on while having the key in the #2 position before you start the engine.

It sounds like your ignition lock cylinder has went bad. not too terrible of a job to replace.

Should replace the wiring and everything or just that one part?

Yes. It's fairly easy to replace. There is a pin that you need to push in with the key in the correct position. Just use a paperclip or a pick. Then the key will pullout with the lock cylinder.

Use the new lock cylinder to tell you what position it needs to be in to remove the old lock cylinder.

Just me but I would replace the electrical part of the ign switch.....not the lock cyl.

Key to on....check for voltage at the BLK/YEL wire at the dist? If none, replace the electical part of the key switch.......35130-SM5-305 is the OE part number, double check this as I assumed a few options.

If he is having to physically hold the key to keep the car running, then its the lock cylinder that is shot. I had the same problem 8 months ago.

Could be...but I've seen the elect part fail at least 10 time more than a lock cyl? Also note the simple test to be sure.
