Default Jez's EG civic built for track

Building my EG civic from a stance ***** to a functional track car.

So i picked up my EG hatch with a B16A2 conversion already in it, The engine had been rebuilt and has had 16,500km on it since.

When i bought the car she had the following:
1.5 way LSD. - ITR headers and exhaust- short shift kit - momo steering wheel- respray in "vivid blue" (Honda colour) - sound system (jl 6.5 fronts, pioneer 6.5 rears, alpine head unit, kicker amp) - dgr fully adjustable coil overs - Mugen rep front lip - neuspeed rear tiebar - bbs rs wheels (reps)- AEM Cam gears

What i have done since:

- blue ngk ignition leads- circuit hero plug cover- spoon rep mirrors- headlight loom tuck (will be redoing soon)- p/s & a/c delete
- k&n apollo closed intake-replaced bonnet, front bar and put in a front rio.
-OEM EG6 lip -Spoon rep duckbill spoiler-Stripped and resprayed inside to match exterior paint
-Buddyclub P1s 15x7 wearing Hancook RS3 tyres.

i will post up some pics soon of my progress as i get a chance.

Default How it looked when i bought the EG

Had get her running nice first as she chewing a heap of petrol, rear left bearing was shot and the boot leaked like a sieve.

The good news is she has a fairly decent paint job (odd chip and scratch)
The bad is that she needs some fender/body alignment from what looks like a bad front end fitment when it has been apart or pranged in the past.

i replaced the hatch gas strut glass fitting caps with OEM pieces from honda, so now it can be used without losing your fingers. swapped out stock ECU for a chipped ECU (we see how that goes for now)

Default Raised the car so the fiance can drive

raised the car a bit for the fiance to get into the preschool driveway, So i swapped the BBS reps to use the Rays we had laying around the workshop, stretched tyres were def not going to suit the height.

pulled the front right fender off and the front bar to see what was going on with the MASSIVE bonnet gap on that side, i had an idea it may have been a sedan bonnet so borrowed mates spare to fit. bobs your uncle it fits.

i swapped GAP for GREASE with this bonnet.
picked up new bonnet, bar and rio to fit it all up and get here straight again.

Default Jez's EG civic built for track

NIP TUCK

started like so

decided to tuck headlight looms and ended up removing P/S and A/C. then whilst doing the tuck i fitted the new bonnet, front bar and rio.

the loom was pretty easy, just need to take your time and not rush, a/c was straight forward and the power steering was a little more tedious to get out.

fitment was crap with new panels, rad support at top needed welding to the upright rad support.

Interior designer

After putting the front end all back together i decide to strip out interior and prep ready for paint.

i got busy and spent a whole day stripping the interior ready for paint, once everything was out i gave her a clean and sand, i went the same colour as outside but stayed with basecoat for now as i am undecided on putting cage in or go with some bracing.

Thanx for the help Benjii - mate painted it for me.

here we see me fit a OEM EG6 lip, Spoon rep duckbill spoiler and the fiance got me an early father day prezzie - set of buddyclubs

i have also tee'd up a sponsor for the car. at this stage it was about August and had only had the car for two months.

Not happy with the bay day

So at this stage it the end of August and i pulled the engine out and given her a tidy up as i will be painting the bay. decided to shave some of the tiny holes and spot welds around towers and it turned into a bit more of a shave and seam welding some of the rad support that was showing its age.
when conversion was done and full size rad was installed they butchered the rad support.

this was what she looked like with everything in the bay

i am changing the rocker cover to match the vivid blue on the outside and am going a nice in your face solid colour for the bay.

half done and a quick prime so i could leave it till the weekend as we were going to be welding.

my old man giving me a hand to weld the rad support

i am going to shave as much of the imperfections on the front of the towers so it looks half decent, back of them and firewall is staying OEM spec for now.

ditched the Koyo full size rad and trial fitted a tegiwa half size to see how it goes, then my brain realised of **** DC2R Koyo full size was in it so guna have to move bottom mounts.

got a fan on order should arrive this week, was going for paint that saturday so needed to get a move on to be ready in time.

will need to fab up a better rad bracket or buy a new one if i stayed with Tegiwa radiator. have decide to go back to full size for now.

Got my new fan
and did a quick fitment test. lines up like a boss. however the radiator doesnt bcoz of the bottom mounts and i dont really want to notch the bonnet.

after i fitted this up i decided to stick with full size until i decide how i want to run this. if my mate can custom make me brackets for my full size and i find a good slim fan for it ill run the Koyo instead.

Cheers man, taking down some OEM skirts, spoon rep mirrors and the front bar for paint tomoz,

Engine bay is going a 2K solid paint, getting heaps of flak from mate saying it wont look good but i think they fail to realise its going to be for track not the road or show

Couple of pics of the new stickers going on the car ready for the track day in October.

i designed and cut the vinyl at a friends custom tshirt shop. i am using Avery 700 series for my vinyl. really easy application.. this is the first sticker i have placed on hard panels. a few bubbles here and there as applied just after dusk

still undecided which header to run, the new Tegiwa header (4-2-1) or the ITR one (4-1)

paint time:

Had the chance to get down to the spray booth today with my friend Benji, he painted the new front bar, EG6 lip, EG skirts and both mirrors. (skirts not on yet)

Well i was going to paint my spoon rep mirrors until i snapped the drivers side glass, so i repaint OEM mirrors. actually like the OEM mirrors better now. still needs to be cut back and buffed but you get the idea.

Front bar came up good

Mirrors came up excellent

The more i look at the colour on my car the more i fall in love with it
little bit of metallic with a touch of pearl. Honda did a good job with the vivid blue and when it is in the sun it really pops.

Things are really starting to stick

So i have a "informal sponsorship" deal set up with Marcus at JDMaccessories.com.au and have been going through and ordering bits and pieces i want to run on my car. i picked up some goodies today and hopefully have more parts coming mid month october.

decided i should update this, so i have copied across from my other local build thread.

GETTING EVEN MORE READY TO PAINT THE BAY

So i spent late last night doing the final prep on the engine bay, really was over it by now so there is a couple of areas i should have spent more time on but i just want it running again ready for the track day eom.

used a drop sheet over the whole car and as i really cbf making this a show car i prepped to paint in the driveway

i moved all the bits and pieces onto the lawn to avoid overspray, if ever there was a perfect day to paint outside it was today.

i shaved the front of the towers a little, here its in primer before another rub with 800 wet/dry

And now wet rubbed the other side

More wet rubbing for the firewall

Paint time again

Masked up the subframe with trusty old Alfoil as you do when u doing a driveway respray.

Roadtrip to go get a compressor as Benji forgot i didnt have one and we borrowed a mates next suburb across, also went to find an extra drop sheet for under the car to stop dirt kicking up, but Autobarn didnt have any, they did however have a $4 tarp. lady said its 6x4 big, thinking we just scored a hectic 6m x 4m tarp me and Benji got back to mine and realized it was 6ft x 4ft.
just big enough to cover under the engine bay

Damn bug lands on my tower to get high on the paint

Time to put it back together

So i got everything back on the firewall this afternoon once the paint was dry, just need to tighten up booster inside, i forgot to plug the wiper in under the plenum cover and it sucks more because i have every OEM clip that goes on the cover. oh well, lets hope it doesnt rain on the next track day :D

I was worried about setting everything back up on firewall as the past twelves months i spent @ ISON INDUSTRIES i normally pulled everything apart to prep jobs and very rarely was there late when the boys are fitting the brake lines and fuel lines back up.

Turns out my mind remembered where everything went so i am sweet, i ran the driver side tucked headlight loom already and the engine loom into the bay ready for the motor. tomorrow after tonights 12 hour graveyard shift i will be at it again with little sleep doing the passenger side.

i am aiming to get the engine in and mounted this weekend so i can take it down to ISONs and we can fill up all the fluids and bleed all the lines,if i get a move on ill have no distractions in the workshop Monday being a public holiday.

Drivers side guard, headlight and indicator in and bolted up,

decided to start to put motor back in but got way too hot so gave up for today and im off to have a nanny nap, working a graveyard shift and coming home to work on the car is not a good idea, especially when on your own putting engine in.

Almost ALIVE

So i used a moto jack for the engine and after carefully jacking the car up onto stands i was short 2 inches to get engine under the rad support.
i had no choice but to slide the engine off the jack and push it under the car, i then had to lift the entire engine back onto the moto jack whilst under the enigne bay.... that was a misson.

Changed the clutch slave as you can see the old one was rooted

Whilst cleaning the left driveshaft and arms, i realised rack boot is shredded, looks like another part to buy.

So i have about 90% off the engine bay finished after todays effort, colour is brighter with the camera flash at night.

Bar and EG6 lip also fitted tonight

Clear or amber indicators ???? im of to minds atm as too which i like better.

99.9% Done

So i have almost completed getting everything back in, all that is left is to connect shift linkage. modify exhaust cat to reach headers and sort out what im doing with the battery.

will be taking car down to the workshop @ ISON Industries so i can finish off little interior pieces, put all the fluids in and pump the pedal while James bleeds it all.

Once down at the shop i will be deciding if i can afford to do all the suspension bushes and swaybars before trackday, see how we go, def needs camber kits in front and rear if i lower it for the track.

also need to put window trims back on, they were sikaflexed on

NEARLY SET UP FOR TRACK DAY

So as above you can see i have picked up a miracle Xbar for the car aswell as some function7 LCAs off Alex from the parts section here,

well in my hast to jump on a good deal i forgot i have type r LCAs that were on the car when i bought it, only looked at car on hoist once and didnt focus on the rear, rookie error there so no shiney LCAs for me. type R are staying in mine and prob get rebushed.

i did receive these today....

gotta say that John Lor has got to be the quickest to post anything off to you, thanks if you read this.

So i decided that whilst dropping my parts off to the car that i would put front Hardrace camber kit in, Eeeko AKA Renel was down at the shop and supervised my install and we had a chat, he was going to snap up the LCAs until we remembered EK is different to EG. Damn it. will go on the ISON track car if all goes ahead as planned or ill sell to a mate for the same bargain price i got them for.

It had planned to be a quick change of old UCAs as car was still on stands, well the stands were needed so i had to do it on the ground, just meant jacking both sides seperately.

tools of the trade

I am yet to place toe arms in and will do this on the weekend, i adjusted the height other day measuring each coil so i got the same height all around. will be going somewhere to get full allignment before tracking it.

Just need to finish off custom rad brackets and mount thermo fan aswell and connect headers to cat this weekend. will go over the car to look for other bits that need attention, like the tucked loom that isnt finished yet.

If all goes to plan the front hubs, discs and brakes will get a very shiney blue upgrade this weekend, if it happens you will know why

So got the my radiator secure using an EK oem bracket a longer 8mm bolt and some fuel hose cut to act as a spacer. Only thing that would work until i can get custom brackets made.

Installed hardrace toe arms, miracle x bar going in and ison tensioned the timing belt today.

Also this arrived in the mail today

Todd dropped the wiper brades off on saturday, lol

So i have put my spoon wipers on and installed a mini fire extinguisher for track days.
Also got my AEM fuel rail and FPR, Brian Crower springs and retainers, edelbrock victor x intake in the post waiting to be delivered next week or so.

just need to sort out camshafts, a new TB as i sold the S90 and then after that organize fuel pump and injectors. once i got all the bits i will decide on ECU and send it off for a tune. i am going to aim for 120kw out of the B16a2 so see how we go.

ready for wakefield just gotta do height adjustment and wheel alignment on monday morning. will take some decent shots of everything while at wakefield and post up some pics...

So my new intake manifold arrived yesterday and i was excited to get it all together, edelbrock victor x and i also picked up a AEM fuel rail and FPR as mentioned before.

The edelbrock intake comes with everything, including hose fittings and block offs depending on your set up, i sused out how my current intake was running and set the hose fittings to the back of the edelbrock intake.

Bit of mucking around but got it all together, only issue is the intake doesnt bolt straight on, i needed to take then thermo housing off first then bolt on. Retro fitted some different hoses that had better bends.

To fit the fuel rail i needed to undo the loom and the plastic, i tucked them through the space between 1st and second runner and plugged her all up.

Biggest pain was the fuel rail studs and the TB studs as you need to remove from oem and use them. Decided to use the rail ones but will buy bolts for the TB.

Need to do the fuel set up and move FPR and then she will be sweet.

Not sure what effect the victor x will have on my set up but i need to experiment to understand how each intake works, the plenum is huge on these and the runs are short so im hoping i dont loose too much mid range.
