1.7 EL engine match?
I am looking to find out what my engine match is on a Honda. I have a head gasket leak, but every shop I go to, to get a quote on labour , has given me a different time! Several have told me its 4.5 hrs and my engine is no different than a Honda Civic DX, others look up 2003 Acura 1.7 EL and come back with 10 hours of labour!!!! (I think they cant find my car in their books (American listings for a Canadian built car)...so they are trying to come up with a number??)
I called a few auto wreckers and all they tell me is that my engine is a 1.7 L VTECH. That doesnt get me too far with the labour quotes.
Any help with this would be appreciated as Id like to take this information to the shops I have asked for quotes so they get it right.
Id also like to find out how to access tech. information on procedure for replacing the head gasket (steps involved and specs on order of head bolt pattern removal and tightening as well as torque specs for the same. (and anything else that needs to be known as I only want to do this once and get it right~
Thanks to whoever can respond and shed light on my questions.

If you're looking for what car yours is closest to, then your car is basically a 2003 Civic EX with a few add-ons that weren't offered in the States. Drivetrain-wise, its identical to the Civic EX.
As for the time it takes to do a headgasket, you're looking at about 4-5 hours. If you're looking to swap the engine out for a new D17A2, then its going to be a bit more.
For detailed shop information, pick yourself up a Helm's service manual for the car. Its about $75 the last time I checked.
