Hey guys,

I tried searching for my problem to see if someone has already answered it, but I couldn't find it. Anyways, so today on my way home I was at a stoplight and I heard a pop sound then what sounded like plastic rubbing on something, like a lip scrapping on the ground, then a high whining sound. Then I went to accelerate and it was so sluggish. My rpm's barely rise until I'm at 2k rpm then I finally start to move, but still much slower than before. I have a 5 speed DX, bone stock. I called my mechanic and he said it could be my clutch? but I'm thinking it could be fuel related? I'm not too sure where to start looking for the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR heard pop and high whine while stopped. car barely accelerates now. need help please

UPDATE: I took the car out for another drive. When I came to a stop I could hear a loud whining sound coming from under the hood. Still very slow acceleration and it sort of sputters like it's about to stall, but the rpm's don't change. I could smell gas when I was in the car and I could hear a loud clicking sound under the hood. I believe it was coming from behind the engine towards the windshield. My belts are loud so couldn't pinpoint it exactly. I don't have a CEL on either.
