Im about to get a 98 ls integra and over the winter i could do one of two things fully build the b18b or just sell that swap and gt a jdm b18c5 price will be about the same so what would you guys do and why?
ls/vtec.
Find vtec head and trans, rebuild block with new pistons, see how much $$ you have left over and put towards good bolt-ons and maybe even cams.

Sorry typo i knew that. I dont want ls vtec at all just answer the question on whats beter built non vtec b18b or b18c type-r??
my basic type r cam/b16 piston lsvtec probably cost me in the mid 2000 dollar range all said and done with the biggest single expense (besides machine work) being 300 bucks for type r cams
How much work are you gonna do yourself?
I say stockish c5 /cR and just enjoy with bolt-ons for utmost reliability.
If you know what you're doing, then sure you can build a motor - but there's not much worse than spending $bank$ and then having poor ring seal or spun bearings bc you or some lousy builder fucked up.
For the $ I'd be looking hard at k24's.

Stay b18C5, never crack it open and be simple. K24s are nice, but require very good mechanical inclination and a lot of extra parts to integrate. but if you have to have the biggest all-motor K-series YO!, project, by all means....
And yes.. i own a K24 powered Honda.

b18c is nice you will be happy with it over built b18b
itr is much better in its OEM form since its actual performance engine not an economy like b18b.
and its a good start if you want to upgrade later on
with simple boltons and a tune the ITR will outperform most "built" b18b motors

Buy a cheap LS block, rebuild it with OEM rings, bearings and get a set of ARP rod bolts, and a main bearing girdle would help. Find a B16 or Type R head, bolt it on and it'll have more torque than a Type R
I'll vote for a rebuilt Ls-VTEC with b16 pistons and R cams. If you can swing for aftermarket cams that would be even better. With a good header ( you've seen the dyno comparison threads ) intake manifold, throttle body and tune you can achieve much more power than a bolt-on ITR engine.
Going off the two choices you asked about though : stock vtec engine > built non vtec engine.

well assuming your getting this 98 LS over the winter as a DD... I'd say do a nice rebuild of that LS motor, get some nice tires upgrade clutch and conservatively turbo it 6-10 psi... for the $ you could do much better numbers and power then the ITR..
