Default Noise coming from passenger side brakes

Hey guys!

I am new to the forum. I just bought a 95 Civic DX hatch. It is manual. Totally stock besides the S20 transmission I put in it.

A little about me:

I have some experience with cars, mostly other brands though. I have rebuilt a subaru 2.2l and a VW 1.6l diesel engine. Ive also done a few transmission swaps. I have a decent amount of experience but I am far from an expert.

Anyways, that help people figure out how mechanically inclined I am so they know if I can fix things myself or not.

Okay,

My civic makes a terrible scraping noise when I brake, but only when I am under 10 miles per hour or so. It also makes the same noise when I am turning more than about a quarter turn of the steering wheel, but it only does this sometimes(the majority of the time but not always). It gets quicker with my speed, so it moves at the same rate as the wheels. I took a quick look at the rotor through the gaps in the wheel and it looked like the outermost part of the rotor had some scrape marks on it. Almost like it was being rubbed there. So my guess is that whatever is making that noise is rubbing there. I havent had a chance to check it out, but I plan to tonight. I am wondering what it might be though. I imagine it isnt anything stuck in between the brake pads and rotor because it doesnt rub all the time and I feel that it would have been pushed out when the tires turn.

Has anyone had this experience or know what it might be?

Thanks for any advice!

I really look forward to learning more about these cars and being a part of the forum.

Could be the metal contact that annoys you when its time to change breaks.

Hmm, It will be interesting to see which it is. I dont know why any of those would make this particular sound though, except maybe the wear indicator. I thought bearings at first but this is so noisy and only at those slow speeds that I really dont think it would be a bearing. Ive had weirder things happen to me though!

Hey guys!

I just wanted to update everyone. I ended up finding out that the top retaining pin on the caliper was seized. I got a new one from a junk yard and I will be replacing it tonight!

Thanks for the help!
