Default 91 sedan w/ LS, swapping d15b7 bottom d16y7 head in.

hey fellas, recently purchased the car with an LS in it. ive come to the conclusion that a bseries in an ef is not going to give me the ground to oil pan clearance I desire. what all do i need to be able to put the d series in it? shift linkage? ecu? what sensors will work and what wont? im currently running a conversion harness at the ecu. never really been a d series guy so im new to all the mixing and matching stuff. any help is greatly appreciated

This is *** backwards. Clearance? Just get new shocks. Going back to a D-series doesn't make a lot of sense. But if you really want a non-Vtec SOHC in there, it's not hard. It's all stock. Stock linkage, stock wires, stock everything. It just transfers over. Stock engine mounts. The whole nine will be factory components and hella easy to get.

get new shocks??.......... ground to oil pan clearance as in I drive my car litterally as low as i can possibly drive it.... b series is a much larger and taller motor, making it sit lower in the bay, therefore have LESS GROUND CLEARANCE TO OIL PAN. thank you for you helpful post though.....

The engine and head you are asking to use are going to need some investigation.
The Y7 head is from an OBD2 car.

Are you planning to run OBD0 or OBD1? (I don't meantion OBD2 because it's not worth the effort.)

Your OBD choice will determine your O2 and distributor used for the setup.
You will be extending wires for the new location of the fan switch. Stock was on the back of the block by the oil pan and the newer is on the thermostat housing. I'm not sure on the location of the IAT on the Y7, but the Y8 is in the filter box. I would assume the Y7 to be the same. This will require you to either poke a hole for the IAT into your intake tube or use a different intake manifold that has the IAT location on it.

The side mount for the engine may be like the D16Y8 head which requires you to either buy an aftermarket mount or cut into your timing belt cover for clearance.

What transmission will you use? Any of the D-series transmissions will work so you will need to decide on cable or hydro. It may impact your parts list depending on what you have in there now with the B18.

Well, my shocks suggestion was based on a thought. My B series sits high in the engine bay. The oil pan gives me plenty of clearance. I have an issue with my bumper hitting the ground before I do the oil pan. Which is were I brought in the suspension idea, because I thought your stock suspension might be worn out. That's all. I'm not trying to tell you to get a lift from suspension or something.

4drEF did bring up a lot of OBD issues. You should just get a D16A3 or whatever comes in the CRX si if you want a non-vtec OBD0 motor. It'll work great in your car. Or any D15B1/B7 will work and be easy to install. But if you go OBD1 there is the Y8 and Z6 motors that are worlds better than the B7/Y7 set up you are going for.

Have you thought about getting different motor mounts to lift the engine up and give you better clearance? There may be some weird brand motor mounts in there right now. Post up some photos sometime.
