Default Steel vs titanium retainers, info needed

Ok my build consists of the following:

Head
B18c gsr head
Skunk2 pro 2 cams
Skunk2 pro valve springs
Skunk2 ultra street intake manifold
Aem fuel rail
Aem fpr
Plm v2 headers
Grams 550cc injectors
Skunk2 pro series 70mm throttle body

I'm needing information on retainers my car will be daily driven, and need information on steel vs titanium retainers. I've been reading stories of people with titanium retainers having issues and am looking into these retainers here http://www.inlinefour.com/il4-perfor...eries-vtec.htm will these retainers be ok for pro2 or am I better off with titanium?

Those look like single-spring K20 retainers. Should not use with any dual-spring setup

If you are usisng all teh skunk2 valvetrain compionents why wouldnt you use thier springs and spring base kits?

I have been runinning ti ratienrs for about three years now, possibly only two and a half maybe, not too sure, but in any case they are in great shape still. Mind you my car is seldom driven anymore

I run brain crower steal retainers. In your case get some super tech turbo springs and super tech steal retainers.

I know people that had there ti retainers break after 30k miles.

The average life span of a TI retainer, being daily driven is around 2-3years..

Maybe, less, on bigger cams. This has been something i've delt with for awhile, even in my own personal setup, I had Crower's TI retainers in my ITR, with pro2's, my cams and s2s2's and at about 3 years, the ends were chipping..car was daily driven about 45 miles a day, and heavily beat on. I've also had similar experinces with other TI retainers from other companies in other setups.. it seems to be the norm.

The K series retainers are a good choice, as some might recommend, or the steel retainers are as well, however, retainer height needs to be measured to ensure proper clearancing for cams and stuff.

I've had skunk2, crower be fairly worn in relatively short use. Hard to estimate time/mileage. On the other hand I have had probably 5-6 sets of the snap fit omni/rocket stuff for 8 years now.

Good point, Runnerdown

Snap-fit is critical to longevity for Ti and Al retainers. Relative motion between the spring and retainer is the cause of wear. Reduce/eliminate the motion (grinding) and you reduce/eliminate wear

If you're going to run Ti retainers, have them WPC treated. It will buy you some more time before the inevitable.

Buy snap-fit retainers(S2 Pro/ST) and you'll be fine.

Rocket and Clean rice are correct.....as usual....

A snap fit between retainer and spring will result in little to no wear on a quality ti retainer.

its simple..daily driven just use ITR or GSR factory steel retainers, Honda made them to last 300K miles...

Match the springs and retainers, be careful on your install, you're fine.

10 years on Titanium retainers. Only changed them out because of too many HPDE events. they were a snap-fit as well.

I drove 100K miles on Ti retainers and they never wore out. I have run them in both of my evo daily drivers...the one I sold has 140K on it now. I've only seen a problem with them if there is a valve control problem or the retainer wasn't coated properly.

Pay attention to lash and you'll be fine.

I would match your cams with S2's springs/retainers. You know they are adequate for the cam, and should you ever have any problems down the road - guess what the first question they are gonna ask you is?
