Maybe you have an ls 5th? See what your rpms are in 4th at 70.

Chances are you don't have an ITR trans. An LS 5th wont drop you 1000rpm. 300 - 600 rpm depending on who you talk to. If you're really lucky it's an LS 5th and the tach just isn't all that accurate.

Never trust the stamp or VIN tag. Sometimes people will swap guts. It's not always with malicious intent either. I've had to swap cases before due to a cracked/broken case.

also considering i am 3rd owner of trans and my buddy second and NEVER opened it himself and he bought from OG r owner. i do belive only thing done was (if any) ls 5 th

Be careful with reading stock tachs.. I know mine is off bye a 1000 rpms at 8000.. My stock tach reads 4400 when vtec engages which is 5100..

Sounds like an ls to me. My b17 tranny which is basically the same gearing as an itr, is at 4000 in 5th at 70. My old ls would read 3200 at 70 in 5th

the rpms look right for an ls transmission. my stock ls is around that rpm at 70.

I think your whole tranny is an ls. Doubt the tach is that far off

Ok so drive 4000 rpms in 3rd gear and tell me what your speed is. Keep in mind with smaller tires your rpms will be higher which is why I think you have an ls tranny. Small tires on an ls tranny can make it feel somewhat short.

well my "small" tire is LARGER than a 205/50/15 so that rules your idea out. and rpms are read off the TRANS

Hmm well I thought you had small tires but it was the 14" wheels that I read. And yes tire size affects rpms too. Good luck with your ls trans.

Looks to be a ls trans. Match your buddy gear to gear.

Ls 5th in a 4.4fd gearbox would have 2-3 mph less than a straight ls

um, no. road speed is read off the transmission. RPM is read off the distributor. rpm is rpm, regardless of transmission is in the car.

so it turns out it WAS my cluster. i put a cheap wire in tach in car and bam proper R rpm/speed. also swapped in a spare rpm cluster and it shows proper rpm/speed for the R trans.
