Toda Replica Header vs PLM Big Tube Hytech

Engine specs:
84.5x89
Wiseco 13@1
Eagle rods
Golden eagle main girdle
B16 head port and polish
Skunk Pro-3 cams
Skunk valve train
Skunk ultra intake
90mm tb
3in exhaust
Same engine, all being equal.
272whp plm
Before 264whp with toda fakie
Notice at some rpm points the 15++whp.
Would be nice to see the whole graph with the RPM shown, and it is way to much engine for a replica Toda header the pipe from the last collector is only 60mm and flared out to 65mm at the final flange.
Ultra race.....
Midramge was much better!
Vtec was set at 5250rpms
Peak horsepower was around 9300rpms (I think)
I'll get a picture of the whole graph with rpms showing.
The head was done in a no.name machine shop around my house. They only did a 3d cut aroind the valves and neck.

it seems like toda fakie works not on every motor
the other test showed it having much smoother power all across compared to other headers..

Ive never seen a B20v make those kind of numbers no matter what header is used.
even the toda number would mean 300 at the crank. which would be 150hp/ltr.
IDK, maybe that dynojet is is set rather high.

the budget header showdown graphs show toda preforming better than the other ones and having a nice smooth curve without many dips...
but it was smaller motor.
but it was smaller motor.
BTW O.P. That machine shop must know their doing lol
... Usually to make the kind of power you are making, you need a real good head by guys who really know the B-series (RLZ, 4Piston, MCP, Portflow etc)
I dont have too much info on my RLZ head. I dont even have a flowchart to it....
I never really doubted the RLZ head .. I know Brad does good work , and the power I was at (257whp) .. with only 12.5:1 compression (4.2cc Piston) wasnt something to complain about.
Although, I do wonder why my Vtec was at such a late RPM (6300Rpm) vs the OP's 5250Rpm. I also noticed that whatever i threw at it ( 3 different sets of cams, 5 different headers, and 3 Intake Manifolds ) .. It never changed the power output much... (even if it made a ton of difference before Vtec). It was as if i was maxxing out at the 257whp.
As you can see, the OP just threw a header on, and it made a very big difference everywhere...

any header test (popular units of course) is good and beneficial to those who know how to interpret information.
PRLSV, thanks for the back to back test. it goes to show that even with the big tube tri-y outperforming the toda rep, the toda rep can still make sufficient power without "choking" the motor, even in the higher rpm.

im currently use the plm toda replica on my b20v, i got rid of the plm tri-y based on what i read on these forums... i might see if i can find another one locally to test against my toda rep, and see if any gains can be made.
thanks for the testing.
thanks for the testing.
Great test ,it just shows you that your engine will pick what it likes better, every engine is different
Both headers are great, and it surprises me a little that the big tube does not win by more way up top.w
But there is something wrong with the dyno graphs.
-Hp and Tq have a mathematical relation, and if you look closely on the graph here there is clearly something wrong. When looking at the HP-graph the big tube wins, but when looking at the Tq graph the Toda wins. This is not possible!
If it is a normal Dynojet rotating mass dyno I think it calculates the Hp from how fast the car can accelerate the mass. If so the Hp-graph is the correct one.
If it is Load dyno (eddy current) it measures Tq from how much load it can apply to the car. If so the Tq-graph is the correct one, and if so the Toda header actually wins.
Seeing that there is quite a bit more signal noise on the Tq-graph leads me to believe that the Tq-graph is the correct one, and the Hp-graph a wrongly calculated from the Torque. But I am far from sure about this. Maybe it lowers the Hp curve on the Toda over a big area because of the signal noise in the Tq.
Dyno experts please chime in

Don't get rid of the Toda copy just because of this one thread. Depending on what cams you use, the Toda can make 15+ hp in the midrange over that damn Hytech replica.
I dont plan on gettin rid of the Toda rep, I said I wanted to pick up a long tube and test against what i have now.
