2002 civic ex, cranks and no start, after a few times will start
Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to read my thread.
no CEL.
Went to my car this morning and normally tried to start my car, I had the car cranking for about 5 seconds or so. Didnt start. The 2nd time I cranked it fired up normally. Everything seemed fine on my 40 mile commute to work.
I go to leave work this evening, car cranks over but will not start. 2nd time, wouldnt start. I waited a minute, 3rd time would not start. waited a few more mins, 4th time it started. after it started I waited 30 seconds, cut it off. Started it 3-5 times with no issues. Everything seems fine once it is started.
Fuel pump, cam sensor, crank sensor....am I missing anything? What is the process in eliminating what it is not so I can figure out what it is, I dont want to dump money into randomly trying to fix it.
THanks.
Just read about the green key flashing light. I have only had this car for 2 months. I previously owned older hondas with regular keys.
So if the green key light is flashing while cranking, that means either the programming of the key is off, or the unit is bad correct?

If the immobilizer light is blinking, you either have a bad pairing, a bad ECU, or something faulty in the components involved.
Ok. I am going to use the spare key and see if I have any issues. If I do then I know it cannot be the keys.
Same thing happened to me last year.
I'd turn the key and then listen to see if you can hear the fuel pump. If you can hear it then it is probably alright unless it is sounds weird (howling). Plus it sounds like it is driving fine once it starts. Then I would trickle charge the battery after checking the fluid level in each compartment. If the crank issue goes away, I would plan on getting a new battery in a month or so. Just my experience.
I feel your pain on the commute (72 mi/day for me), not sure what the roads are like but I'd definitely be learning your suspension as it will be taking a beating.
