Steering wheel shaking and vibrating... Not tire balance?
So i drove to get my new rims and tires put on today... Drove there on my little 14 inch steelies with shitty tires fine... I got my new rims and tires put on and got vibrations and steering wheel at about 40 or so and 75ish as well... Could this be a bad tie rod? Ball joint?
I think your tie rods and ball joints and steering rack all need to be looked at for sure.
It may not be the exact reason for the shake, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to start to look at them and replace as needed.
When you have vibrations, it wears everything else out.

I have 2 lugs come off a car previously. Thank goodness it was a drum brake. It bent the rim and it was a bad day. But I survived.
I had vibration on my car and it was my wheel nuts being loose. The part that holds the axle to the knuckle. 134 ft-lbs if you are going to tighten them to spec. That solved my issue mostly.

Not to high jack the thread entirely, but I am having similar symptoms it seems. At 35+ mph the steering wheel on my car shakes a little bit. But it shakes a little less when I push in the clutch and I'm not putting power to the wheels.
Having similar symptoms OP? Or is it just a shutter at 40 and again at 70 then it goes away? Do you have a motor swap? Or is it stock?

Worn motor mounts can cause this because it will make the driveshafts vibrate.
Could also be worn shocks.
People always assume it's unbalanced tires/wheels !

Wow... some non-readers here.
Guy had perfectly fine ride on his 14s.
He goes to a shop and gets new wheels put on and right then the vibrations start.
And you want to suggest shocks, motor mounts, driveshafts (lol! must be an s2k!), axle nuts, etc.
.... reaaaalllyyy....

Before you do anything, If you own a torque wrench, check your lug nuts. Spec is 80ft Lbs but I go 100 to be safe.
And by driveshafts I think they meant CV axles.
Ok yes i do have a torque wrench so i will torque them down... 134lbs? seems like a lot i was thinking like 80lbs... the car does have a swap obd0 b16 with gsr trans
and just in case anyone was wondering the rims are 949racing 6uls and tires are hankooks (not the best tires but way better than the shitty tires on my steelies which is why im stumped)
you can take them off if you want or just check if they are tight, torque to 80 ft lbs regardless
I said this because the program i use for looking up spec says 80 - 100 so that would mean you can use anywhere in between would it not?
